I get ammo delivered usually every couple of weeks , sometimes twice within the same week . this week 2 shipments were sent to me from 2 different companies . They both arrived the same day on the same truck . The first box looked completely intact , and when opened had zero problems . The second one had been broken open then taped together with clear box tape to the point that I had to practically saw it open . when I opened it 4 out of 6 boxes of one type ammo were ripped apart and all the ammo was loose . I looked at the other boxes of another type of ammo and they were all crushed up and dented . Now , both of these boxes , upon inspection, were packed well and almost identical as far as materials used to pack . from looking at the box that was broken open , it looks like it might have been used in a scrimmage football game somewhere between shipper and myself . lol, it wasn't even square anymore , more round than anything . This is the first time this has happened and was wondering if anyone else has run into this and if so , what did you do about it? I'm making a call to UPS monday and saving the box to show them what happened . Since there was no insurance , not sure what they would do about it .

UPS has done that to my packages at least a dozen times. They weren't ammo, but other things.

UPS is always my last choice for shipping:barf:
Things always take longer to arrive, They often arrive in a beat up condition(ordered 1000 bullets from Wideners, 400 arrive in a hazmat bucket-no explanation, no "Please call us...") and occasionally get delivered to the wrong address (Springfield 3rd Gen rifle scope dropped off next door. Address was correct on the package, they just delivered it to the wrong place.)

Then there was the case of them stealing handguns from a shipment going to a local gunshop...
I'm sure that became the impetus for Overnight shipping only for handguns:fire:

I've never had any problems that bad. Ocasionally a corner is smooshed but no damage to the contents. You should contact the seller just to verify it went out ok (they may tell their S&R dept. to box things better) and contact UPS. UPS has an automatic $100 insurance on anything that goes through which may not cover what that shipment cost but could buy you another half-case.

PTMMATSSC - Contact the shipper directly and explain the delivery of their product. It is the shippers responsibility to make things right as you are their customer. UPS will deal with the shipper as they are UPS's customer as far as claims are concerned. You do not have to get involved with UPS at all!!! Some shippers would like to have you believe differently to reduce their liabilities in inventory and shipping costs. You will always get favorable results this way.

The point in short is that you are not UPS's customer the shipper is. You are the address in which the consignee has requested delivery be made. All transportation companies work this way and believe it or not it is to your advantage. Also, signatures do not release UPS of imdemnity. They understand that some damage may not be recognized till after the package is opened. They merely use signatures as proof of delivery. Hope this insight helps expedite your replacement product.:)

They probably dropped it off a forklift, or they ran over it with a forklift. Or maybe they dropped it out of a plane ...

We had a wire rabbit cage delivered by UPS and the carton was all busted up and some of the pieces lost and gone along the way ... :( The shipper had to send us the missing pieces and try to get it out of UPS' hide themselves.

Since there was no insurance , not sure what they would do about it .

If I'm not mistaken, EVERY UPS shipment gets $100 insurance coverage with it; requested or not.

This is from a 2003 UPS Press release:

Spend wisely: Evaluate issues such as cost, convenience and service levels before deciding how to ship. For example, by shipping via UPS, your package can be tracked, plus insurance automatically is included on the first $100 of declared value.

It is wierd that everybody else has problems with UPS, but we don't. We ship dentures all the time via UPS, and never have problems. We do have problems with FedEx, but not because they get damaged. Shipments via FedEx usually arrive late.

And yes, $100 is the default insurance selection.

I'm reminded of the opening scene in Ace Ventura, where he is in disguise as a UPS deliveryman, and he's playing catch, soccer, and everything else with a package...

Shipments via FedEx usually arrive late.

If that happens, FedEx will refund you shipping cost in full. Always remember that. It seems that the only time FedEx is late on delivery for me is when it is extremely important that it arrive next day morning. Often if there are problems, they are delivered next day afternoon. But still, it is only a small percentage of my total shipments. I average a couple of next day packages a week.

UPS and ammunition. I have had shipping boxes delivered damaged. I usually don't blame UPS as much as the shipper for insufficient packaging. (strengthwise).

Does anyone know when you buy ammo and have it delivered is the package labeled ammunition? I work at a place that I don't want to have the ammo delivered if it is marked. If the delivery is marked can you arrange a UPS pickup at their location rather than a home or office delivery? Thanks for any info.

I get ammo delivered by UPS and zero problems.
I've received 150 pkgs. bought on eBay, del. by UPS & USPS and zero problems.
What have you done to your UPS driver to get him so P.O.'d at you? lol

UPS stops by at least once a week. Driver has my cell number and knows not to leave "Orem D".

Never a problem.

If I'm not mistaken, EVERY UPS shipment gets $100 insurance coverage with it; requested or not.
And EVERY UPS claim seems to get denied, meritorious or not. Such has been my experience, anyway.

As a friend of mine--who flies A300's for Union Package Smashers--frequently remarks, "you can't spell 'stupid' without 'UPS.'"

I can't tell you what to do about it, but having worked for UPS I can explain what happened to your package. They all come down a conveyor belt with the trucks side by side, and loaders read the addresses, if it's on their route they load it into their trucks. At the end of the belt there's a steel bar that stops the packages, and when they get built up they start to smash. If your UPS packages are frequently smashed, it either means your truck is near the end of the line, or the guy who loads them can't keep up and misses a lot. This happens all the time, and FedEx works the exact same way. I worked at the end of my line, so I'd see packages getting crushed all day long. And the belt is powerful enough that a strong man often can't pull a box out from between two others.
