I need to ship a handgun from KY to AL and the receiver's shop doesn't want to sign up with Bud's ShipMyGun service. My local FFL probably won't ship it USPS for me so I will have to ship it myself by overnight. Generally speaking, is UPS or FedEd less expensive?

Unfortunately ... it depends. Both of them charge exorbitant overnight rates. I have found the costs to be close, but at least near me, the FedEx is a little cheaper. Sometimes, I have found UPS will "mess up" and send the item UPS Ground and save you $15 or $20. As you tried (I guess), I pay my FFL $20 and he ships a handgun for about $16...but he's willing to do so. I'd rather HIM get the money than UPS ot FedEx.

I've found UPS generally less expensive.

I recently shipped a handgun from CA to AZ and FedEx wanted $112 while UPS would do it for $86...both these prices included $1k insurance

I don't know if this was a counter mess up, but last time I had to pay to ship a gun back I went to FedEx late on a Friday afternoon, the guy ahead of me in line was whining because he'd missed the cut-off for overnight delivery. When my turn came they shipped it second day air which was like $17. Try going in after the overnight shipping deadline has passed.

IIRC, the last two guns I personally shipped via UPS several years ago were $80.00 and $81.00. I doubt UPS would be cheaper now, and don't know how FedEx would compare. I use a local FFL now that ships via USPS Priority Mail and it usually costs me $35-$40 depending on insurance...
