Does anyone have a link to them? I have only found 2002 and 2003's. I have gun grabbers telling me guns kill more people in the US then cars, I just need to set them straight.

Thanks

Just use what you've got. I think those stats take a while to compile. Make them come up with the proof that they are correct.

We get so caught up in trying to prove them wrong, we never make them prove their case.

I hear ya. This debate has been ongoing for two days now. I feel like I am talking to a brick wall. They offer no reference's for there argument just the same old babble.

Just a taste of what I am dealing with.

bottmom line.. criminal will use all force possible to get wot they want, may it be killing 32 students or robbing a bank etc.. the way you have to look at it is this.. over here yes more killings are by knife attacks and more over there are shootings...

doesnt this indicate something to you? you can carry pistols (concealed of not) so criminals will 'upgrade' their weaponary to have the advantage eg - submachine guns.. IF ur laws changed so you can carry sub-machine guns on ur person (nt sure if u can or not atm) then criminals will 'upgrade' to using rifles...

morale of my post... u have a gun.. they'll come at you with a bigger one

I disagree that the students should have been armed...its a place for learning, leave the defense to police and security.

lets say students start carring weapons, on the 1st discussion they make (doesn't even matter the reason) one of them will be shot. weapons are for professions (police, army, etc,...) civs with weapens will only escalate violence, after some time criminals will start to use what?. the main question here is how did that guy get past everyone, with a weapon, without no one see and then calling the police/security sooner?

Thats just a part of it, some are from the UK and some from the US. There ignorance is astounding. Sorry I am rambling, we all have heard it before.

I like using WISQARS for statistics like this. Latest year, though, is 2004. I just ran the statistics for 1999-2004, comparing firearm homicides with motor vehicle fatalities: 3.93 per 100K for firearm homicides versus 15.33 per 100K for motor vehicle fatalities.

This is a great site for statistics of this kind. One comparison I like to point out, when antis mention the danger of firearms to children in the home is that children 10 years of age and younger are more than 20 times as likely to die from drowning (1.64 per 100K) than they are from accidental discharge of firearms (0.07 per 100K). So let's ban bathtubs and swimming pools! :banghead:

I think I have US census data that shows cars kill more than guns - going to find it right now, will post when I get it.

EDIT:

Can't find a hard number of firearm homicides, but perhaps the following can help:

vitstat.pdf - pdf page 24 (page 92) has death by "accidental discarge", as well as automobile data.
law.pdf - has crime-related data, you may find something useful.

I don't have links handy at the moment, but the numbers for the U.S. are pretty much the same very year:

Deaths from cars: 40k
Firearm total: 30k (with 10k of that total being murders)

Isn't this the same argument that our police/government uses to rationalize going armed with M-16's and APC's?

Besides, anecdotally at least, it's fairly common knowledge that criminals report fearing armed citizens far more than the police, even with the current levels of "weapon disparity" (i.e., citizens armed only with pistols and police armed with rifles, attack dogs, chemical weapons, clubs, helicopters, riot shotguns, armored cars, and so on)

At any rate, since hearing that my local crack dealer just got a new Deagle, I now feel it necessary to call The Lord of War and buy me a shiny new stutter gun. I think I may load alternating hollowpoints and armor piercing for maximum effect...

It's all about the kids!

Read the book 'Freakonomics,' by Levitt and Dubner, which uses economics and statistics to look at 'conventional wisdom.' There is 1 child death per 11,000 residential swimming pools (with about 6 million total). There is 1 child death per million guns (with about 200 million total). Pools kill 550 kids under 10 each year, versus about 175 by guns.

We need a background check for pool owners, annual licensing, and required lifeguard training. Better yet, let's ban them altogether!

Darkside

If you call the CDC (404-639-3534) you can talk to a real live human bean who may be able to help. They have always been nice when I have called. And your taxes have already paid them.
Good luck.
