There’s a used 23 gen 5 at a local shop for $500. Slight wear on the right side slide lock, but otherwise very clean.

Is it worth saving $60 or would you just go new?

You use to get your pistol purchase certificate in less than 2 weeks after joining . I would call and check if that is still the same now and check if you have a blue label dealer in your area that participates in the GSSF membership .

I have 3 shops locally that participate, but don’t know if they’ll specialize order for me. I’m really warming up to the idea.

All that aside, is there anything I should look for (aside from obvious frame cracks and the like) from a used gen 5?

Nothing that I know of except for the barrel crown .

A Gen5 23 is probably not a special order item from a blue label dealer . At my local blue label dealer they pull a GSSF pistol from their blue label stock .

Personally, I would go new. I would go with the advice @red rick gave you. Though some Blue Label dealers will only offer stock they have available on hand.

The main reason I would go “New” is that unless I know who owned the gun before and what they may or may not have done to it I would rather be sure of what I am getting and buy new.
There are too many people that think a YouTube video and some part swapping makes them a gunsmith.

A Gen 5 hasn’t really been around long enough to have any appreciable mechanical wear.

That said. Blue Label Or GSSF is cheaper.

I’d bring in a screen shot of a few that sold on Gunbroker and say “can you meet or beat?” Include what you’re have to pay for shipping.

Just applied for my GSSF membership!
Thanks for all the advice.
Your GSSF membership also makes you elligable to take the glock armorers course. its like a 1 day 8 hours course, costs a couple hundred bucks. Well worth it IMHO to be able to really properly maintain your gun.

That's not a good price. The one I examined had: Ameriglo sights, MOS, threaded barrel and Vickers slide release/stop. That was a good $500 deal.

Since the 1st of the year I've bought 2 police trade-in Glocks. Both were 4th gens that looked like they had never been fired with bright night sights. I paid $300 OTD for a G22 and ordered a 9mm conversion barrel for it for $150. The G30 was $350 OTD. I bought both from the same vendor at 2 different gun shows 2 months apart.

I like the 5th gens a LITTLE better. But for that price it was a no-brainer to get 4th gens.

Did you low ball the shop?
Kind off easy.
I'll give you $×××. And remind him that the 40s&w is a dying cartridge and lots of used LEO stock out there!

The gun is worth $400 (excluding tax and processing).

Price is a little high. Something overlooked is gen 5 40s&w are not easy to find holsters for with the thicker slides. Still great shooters. I still won’t talk anyone outta a .40 no matter what brand.

I just joined in January, and the certificate did come in the mail quickly. Definitely within the 2 weeks.
