Used Smith 686p prices?

I've been searching here and google for used s&w 686p 4" prices, but haven't had much luck. An aquaintance of mine is selling his and said it is somewhere between 98% and 99% and quoted $400 for it. I'm looking to buy my first revolver.

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but to be 98% it should be used but never fired? He said he has had it for 2 years, used it for hunting and such, and I have seen the gun in person and didn't see any bad marks on it, but figured to be used (fired) with no marks is around the low to mid 90's which puts it around $350. Any ideas on used prices for such a condition?

A 98 per center Smith & Wesson 686P is well worth the $400
asking price. You figure, in January new guns will rise in price
from 2 to 3%, some even more; so I think your friend is right
on target and his gun will sell quickly.

FootNote: a 98 per center does not have to be unfired; only
used very little.

That is a fair price, a local shop had one as you describe for $399, mint with box and papers - and I bought it – nice gun.
