Keep in mind that the difference could have been just one Senator in these votes.

“This isn’t about safety, this is about feeling good,” Sen. Mark Obenshain, R-Rockingham, said. “That’s what this legislation is about.”

It is now up to the House of Deligates to change or vote down any of these.

RICHMOND — The Democrat-controlled Virginia Senate passed three gun control bills Thursday as Republicans pushed back at the proposals, arguing that they target law-abiding gun owners.

The Senate voted along party lines on bills allowing localities to ban firearms from certain areas as well as restoring the repealed law that caps handgun purchases to one per month. On the bill to expand background checks to all firearm sales and commercial transfers, two Republicans — Sens. Emmett Hanger, R-Augusta, and Siobhan Dunnavant, R-Henrico — joined Democrats.

permit localities to prohibit firearms in buildings owned by the localities or used for government purposes, in public parks owned by the localities, ...

bill to reinstate the one-handgun-a-month law that a Republican-controlled legislature repealed in 2012

Senate Democrats’ version of universal background checks will require any firearm sale and commercial transfer to require a background check.

Sen. Chap Petersen, D-Fairfax City, a moderate Democrat who enjoys hunting, offered a different version of the original bill, which was much stricter. It applied to all firearm transfers, but Petersen wanted to provide some leeway.

He also changed the bill to reduce the penalty from a Class 6 felony to a Class 1 misdemeanor.

Remember that it is easier to get a politician that respects the 2A into just enough seats to make a difference than it is to convince one that doesn't to go against their party.

The law allowing localities to ban handguns in parks is highly disruptive to concealed carry. Parks are places where a lot of violence occurs, e.g., MS-13 in Northern Virginia typically kills and buries its victims in public parks in Fairfax County, Alexandria, Prince William County, Arlington, Loudon County, etc. In addition, public parks are ideal venues to conduct sexual assaults, buy and sell drugs, etc.

But a concealed carrier can hardly be expected to know which counties (or cities) have banned possession of handguns in their parks, so for practical purposes will have to NOT carry anywhere in Northern Virginia or any of the State's other urban areas, anticipating that the progressives in charge of the urban areas will ban guns in their parks.

This comes at the wrong time, too, as crime rates are rising and can be expected to go up since the pro-crime groups have taken charge of the legislature and key Commonwealth Attorney positions. We have been promised "decarceration;" no-cash bail (get arrested and back on the street in one hour); raising the age to be considered an adult in violent felonies; shorter sentences for violent crimes; and no prosecution for property crimes under $2000, drug use, public defecation and urination, or soliciting sex in public. In addition, convicted felons will be allowed to vote, serve on juries, and take up positions as magistrates.

What's gonna happen next? Appears to me we're kinda in the minority these days. Guessin' the 2020 general elections will let us see what happens next.
Second Amendment just became "front and center" issue for 2020 election.

Trump says Second Amendment is "under very serious attack" in Virginia ahead of gun-rights rally - https://www.foxnews.com/politics/trump-second-amendment-gun-rights-rally

"President Trump on Friday declared the Second Amendment is 'under very serious attack' in Virginia amid a contentious gun debate in the commonwealth and ahead of a controversial gun-rights rally in Richmond on Monday.

'Your 2nd Amendment is under very serious attack in the Great Commonwealth of Virginia. That’s what happens when you vote for Democrats, they will take your guns away. Republicans will win Virginia in 2020. Thank you Dems!'"

And these localities will build moats and concert wire around the perimeters, with armed cops standing at the entrances to check for any handguns, right?

At least this keeps Trump on the side of the 2nd Amendment.

This needs to be emphasizes to the Suzy Soccwer Mom who form the rank-and-file of the gun control movement.

Suzy Soccer-Mom fears the street thugs as well as gangs like MS-13. Suzy Soccer Mom wants harsh punishment of street thugs and gangbangers, and gun control is simply a tool to make it more difficult for MS-13 to kill her kiids in a drive-by shooting.

But let them know that the people who push gun control have no intention of punishing violent criminals...

“Take the guns first. Go through due process second.”- President Donald Trump
I bet he will say slightly different things now. ;)

Especially after VA lobby day rally showing the sentiment of "We the People" :D

I believe VA rally was history in the making that is continuing to spread all across the nation.

Things will definitely change because of it.
