Value of winchester 9422 xtr

Have a chance to bid on one tomorrow its in good shape didn't get the serial number off it. Would really like to have it cause my dad has one in a 22 mag but don't what to pay to much either

Probably $400 - $500 if in excellent condition.

But, by the time the XTR came along, the tooling was worn out, and Winchester was putting lipstick on a pig to sell them. Thus, the XTR models.

(At least compared to the fit, finish, and quality of the early Plain Jain blue & walnut ones.)

Thanks rcmodel that's what I was thinking. Not sure if my dad's is a xtr or not but the gun would match up perfect with it

I'll second that, I just paid $550 this year for a first year 9422 with a little bluing wear, so I would think $400-$500 for a later xtr.
The 94/22's are a pretty sought after gun though, so you might be looking to pay more depending on where you are.

I have two later model (mid-1990's) 94/22's and see no indication that they were built on worn out equipment. Or any difference between them and a friend's version from the 1970's.

I'd be very surprised if it didn't go up to $700-$800.

Agee w Craig, 500 for a very clean gun is a steal and closer to 700 is where I am seeing them. Not sure on the tooling wear as my two xtrs are the nicest 22 levers I own. Maybe I am lucky. ( vs marlin and Henry)

Just got rid of the Henry and the marlins will go when I need cash for another gun

From what I've observed, the XTR models seem to be selling for a bit more than the standard models. While I have heard that the quality declined right at the end of production, the XTR's started in the late seventies while these rifles were still top-notch. I have an early 80's XTR that is every bit as good as my first year model from 1972. That being said, if I were in the market for a 9422 today, it would be an early model because I prefer the non-checkered stocks over the others.

I have one bought many several years ago used. Mine is the XTR. Other than some character marks from use it is as well made as any gun I own. No idea what they are selling for today, but I'd gladly pay $500 for another just like mine if they were asking that much.

My 9422 XTR flanked by a pair of Marlin 39's from the 1950's and 60's. The Winchester outshoots both Marlins and is a lot smoother operating.

I own a 9422 exactly like yours in the middle of those three leverguns. It's one of my favorite .22s; I bought it circa 1991.
Is the only difference between the XTR and the regular 9422 the checkering? When I bought mine, the only reason I got a checkered stock is the store didn't have a plain stock version, and the other rifle I was considering (a Browning if I remember right) was more $$ than I wanted to pay.

Not jmr40, but besides the checkering on the XTRs, the stocks had a glossy finish and the metal was supposed to have a higher level of polishing. The most notable areas of attention to the metal were the flat areas on the hammer and lever.

I've got two I bought brand new in around 1980, one is in 22LR and the other is in .22WMR both excellent rifles and I wouldn't even think about selling either one.

The fit & finish on my 9422XTR is equal to the three plain Jane 9422s that my brother has. And they are very nice & smooth little leverguns.

"Tooling worn out"? Hogwash.
