I thought it might be a neat idea to get VEPR and use it as sort of an RPK type weapon since the semi RPK's are soo expensive.

First I would start with a VEPR in 7.62X39 with a 20" barrel...

    Then get a bipod...

    Some 75 round drums...

    A red dot scope...

And maybe even a "gat trigger" for fun...

Seems to me like a relatively inexpensive way to get the RPK feel and firepower. What do you guys think?

Sounds like a pretty good idea to me if you want an RPK. After all the VEPR is an RPK, you're just putting the bipod and drum or 40 round mag back on. If it were me, I'd put the original RPK type wood on it too.

Go for it, it's a mystery to me why some people pay such a huge premium for RPKs/RPK kits when the difference amounts to a slightly thicker receiver, a slightly heavier barrel, and a bipod. For Yugo guns the receiver isn't even thicker.

I thought the Vepr's were in short supply as Robinson worked on the XCR's production... used to read the Vepr's message board.

They ARE sweet, and cheaper than also-very-good Arsenal.
