There's one for sale near me. Going to look at it in the morning. The pictures through e-mail look REALLY clean. The guy claims he's owned it for atleast 60 years. It has iron sights and is not drilled/tapped.

I did a serial number search on two other websights and came up with 1902? Can this be right?

Any ideas on value? The price is low enough that if it has a good bore I will buy it just as a shooter.

buy it regardless of condition, just pay an appropriate price. you won't go wrong on this one, and if it is truly all original, you may not want it as a shooter.

a 1902 manufacture date is possible.

If that were even close to affordable and near me I'd buy it immediately! I love Savage 99s.

Well, I got it. It is from 1902 and has a 20" Octagonal barrel. Pretty fair shape overall, and it has a Lyman peep sight that was never installed and the original iron sights. I am pretty happy with it and the price was right. I gave the old guy what he was asking. He also had a Marlin 336 in .35. I bought both, with 4 boxes of .35 ammo, 3 boxes of .30-30, an old Weaver scope on the Marlin for $500!!! I may resale the Marlin. Haven't decided.

Great buy!!! If that Lyman sight is a period piece it is worth a quarter of what you paid for the lot. Which model Marlin 336?

It has the Rotary mag and the round counter on the front left side of the receiver?

    Nice find.

I bid on a Model 99 .300 Savage and won it but the email from the seller said they had sold it locally.

I just bought a Model 99E in .308. Check out my post.

I have a friend who can eat anything he likes and never gain weight.

I never thought I could hate anyone as much as I hate him -- until you posted that!
