Vic Mackey of The Shield, what type of handgun does he have?

I own all four seasons on DVD and I haven't been able to determine the caliber, but it's definitely a 4506 or 1006. As far as the LAPD is concerned, it would be a 4506, but Vic's different enough to carry a 10mm. In reality it's a blank-firing pistol so we can speculate all we want until somebody gets a close-up view of the slide to see what it's "supposed" to be.

S&W 4506-1. AFAIK, the -1 was when they first introduced the rounded triggerguard in the 4500 model line. Mackey's gun has factory adjustable sights. My father has one with only 50 rounds through it (I'm going to see if I can buy it off him one of these days  - already told him that, if he gets the urge to sell or trade it, talk to me first). Sure it's possible it's a 1006 with adj. sights, but, as already pointed out, correct for LAPD would be 4506

I was thinking it was a 4506 too because it looks identical to my 1006, I have the same sights even, my mom was right, I am special.

Didn't Crockett on Miami Vice use a 4506 when he wasnt using a Bren Ten?

Anyone else notice that Shane is carrying a different pistol this season? I caught a brief glimpse of it, and it looked like a 1911.

Yeah, I noticed that for the split second it was on the screen. I thought "hmm, looks like Shane is carrying a 1911 now," then "geez, if I could only apply this talent towards something useful."

Crockett's guns in order of appearance:

Sig P220 - only in the premiere episode
Bren Ten
Detonics -back up gun in ankle holster
S&W 645
S&W 4506 in the final season IIRC.

He also had some sort of 1911 when he lost his memory and became "Burnett" for several episodes.

I always thought 4506. Denzel style from Training Day. Vick is a bada$$ no doubt about it. :D

Does anyone else get seasick watching The Shield?

The moving camera work on Farscape and Firefly is tame
next to The Shield.

I hadn't thought about it, but now that you've brought it up no doubt I will:D LOL

The show is pretty good for firearms handling. Even the time that Aceveda was threatening a hooker with his Cougar he kept his finger off the trigger.

The biggest gaffe, however, was one time when Vic was "cleaning" his Smith. He dropped the magazine, racked the slide, and with the slide closed began shoving a cleaning brush down the muzzle.

I think the tech advisors were out for coffee during that shoot.

I have been wondering what exactly it was that he carried since I am not too up on my S&W semi-autos. To me this its the best show on TV right now. :D

OMG! A TV cop with proper trigger discipline!

I may have to watch this show after all!

Please watch the first episode and post a critique of what he does with his gun.
:uhoh:

I find the show fascinatingly "gray" in its moral outlook compared to most shows.
