Good idea, definitely good idea. Letting people know that guns are a part of their life, heck, even their WAY of life (and guns gave them that way of life, the reason they're not speaking in a British accent right now, etc) is the only way to retain the rights. If guns are 'out of sight, out of mind' it'll be easier to pass legislation against them, because there will be little attention paid to them. The antis want gun owners to hide and be ashamed of themselves for actually owning evil firearms - don't give them that.

I absolutely think this is a good idea. It's so easy to demonize guns and legislate our rights away when everything is done in a corner. Concealed carry is important for many reasons, but it also keeps the general public blissfully unaware of the prevalence of firearms and the fact that guns are not amulets of evil that conjure violence wherever they go. This kind of demonstration works at a very basic and powerful level. It's classical conditioning, really. You're soliciting the observer to connect guns with responsible, courteous citizens. This is exactly the way we want to be seen! This is the perception that must become the norm if we are ever going to reclaim our rights and our safety.
I would love to take part in such a demonstration. So sad that open carry is [de facto] illegal in Alabama.

Even if we just carry signs with pistols on them, I'm all for 2nd amendment folks demonstrating.

I can see something similar, maybe an Adopt-a-Hyway
Open carry is illegal here in Florida, so maybe groups could just all wear
blaze orange hunting vests or something to show self-reliance.
