Ummm, not that I'm aware of. Art or Fantasy knife genres might show up in movies, but as far as I know those haven't (although I'd like to know if anyone has seen any in films).
One of my criticism of Art or Fantasy knives is when they won't cut...and are just skulpture. In Virgil's case he made things that tickled the fancy, but also were good hunting knives (not shown, but easily found), and a range in between. Some of the more exotic looking pieces are clearly more display or sculptural and some are highly embellished or reimagined practical weapons or tools.
I do think they're very interesting to look at and clearly well made. They're pretty. But it hurts the engineer in me that although they're supposed to be knives, a lot of them are pretty much non-functional.
It's funny, because that might sound like I don't care for art/sculpture and that's not the case at all. I don't have a problem with things that have no use but to look good. I have a couple of large bronze Remington sculptures, I own several original paintings and drawings and a variety of other objects that have no purpose other than their pleasing appearance.
I also understand and enjoy things that are useful and also look good (embellished guns/knives, attractive cars, etc.). But there's something that gnaws at me when a thing should be useful but the attempt to make it look good is taken to such an extreme that it eliminates its usefulness. It's probably weird. If it is, it's not the weirdest thing about me by a long shot.
No, nothing weird about it at all. I like Art knives, but a knife has to still be an effective cutting instrument to be a ... knife. That's one of the old debates within the knife world, is that going to work as a knife regardless of how impressive looking.
