Virginia Senate votes on Gun Show Loophole...

I would also like to add, to those of us, that write letters, send emails and make phone calls, We need to drop those that voted with us, a line, thanking them for their support

And a line to those that voted against us, to let them know they lost a supporter...

We have a hardcore wrath, when they don't vote our way, but on the other side of the coin, we need to help those legislators out, that help us!

Let them know were grateful!! :)

This was the number one priority of all the hysterics and anti-freedom bigots trying to cash in on the Cho massacre and the change in control of the Senate in the last elections. Thank God at least some of our Senators took a deep breath and gave this the drop-kicking it deserved.

God bless our freedom-loving Senators, God bless the VCDL, and God bless Virginia!!

:D

No standing down yet, though, plenty of anti-gun bigotry still swirling around the General Assembly.

WHOO HOO!! Chalk another one up for the 2nd Amendment! Also, Andy J has a very good point. Putting pressure on a representative is one thing but if you don't drop them a line afterwards and thank them, then next time they might just choose to ignore you. Gratefulness speaks much louder than threats and criticism. Call the appropriate politicians and thank them! You will absolutely make their day. And next time they might just remember you.

Sen. John Edwards...

...is my senator. I wrote him the following:

Dear Senator Edwards,

I would like to extend my gratitude to you for your vote in committee to reject the background checks legislation. You took a stand for law-abiding citizens and we all appreciate it. Thank you for representing your constituents well and rejecting purely emotional arguments. It was a pleasure to have spoken to you in December as well as just to say hello at the GA building on Monday. You demonstrated through your vote today that you are both reasoned and principled in legislating. I am proud to have you as my senator, and look forward to working with you in the future. Thank you again.

Please feel free to send some variation of the same. He took the time to meet with me for over an hour in Roanoke. It was quite rewarding to see that he bucked his party (read: Gov. Kaine) and voted rationally. Sorry if it seems like I am sucking up to him, but he also represents Blacksburg, and I am sure that Tech put the pressure on him. I am quite glad that he made the choice to vote the way he did. VT must have been on him to push the "loophole" bill through.

Regards,

Jackie Treehorn

Hmmmm..."gun show loophole".

I guess we'll have to end The Message Board classifieds, The Valley Trading Post, and my friends that are interested in buying and selling of firearms. When will these people learn, it is not the gun, but the person behind it.

As much as a tragedy Viriginia Tech was, trying to close this so-called "loophole" will do absolutely NOTHING. Bad guys do not care about laws or rules. They do what they want when they want to. I wish someone can talk sense to these folks at VT.

Mind a quiet suggestion that gun owners not use the term "gun show loophole"? When gun owners use that term it becomes an acknowledgment that there is such a thing. You're giving the foundation to anti gun arguments when you use anti gun terms.

As examples of what I mean, do you have any "illegal guns" or "cop killer bullets" or "deadly semi-automatic handguns" or "high capacity magazines"?

"The gunman who killed 32 people at Virginia Tech before killing himself in April didn't buy his weapons at a gun show, but families of the victims supported the bill as one way to prevent a similar tragedy."

I'm so glad someone reported this fact, because I was getting sick and tired of people citing the VTECH massacre with bias that made it seem as if Cho exploited either the GLL or any other 'weakness' in VA gun law. He got the guns by a bad stroke of luck, which has been fixed, but people can't seem to see that.
