Braved Ida yesterday and headed south to visit Gunny. Made me nervous seeing all the traffic heading north and I was almost alone traveling south.

I do have to say he has one of everything. Mausers….which one would you like to see, Nagants, one of every one I could think of. Including Westinghouse and Remington. He has more stuff than space. He showed me his stock repairs and all are well done. He gave me an old Mossberg 22 and I purchased a second one from him. Both are being shipped back to NY via a local dealer.

Brought him a nice block of well seasoned Cherry for bowl making. Put in the check baggage on the plane. He is an entire sting man and we had good conversations on all things gun related. Drove back this morning with a fine bowl he made.

There are so many interesting people on this site if we only had time for a visit; or a convention! I was just thinking of Gunny today. I first learned of the 9mm Endomags from a post of his. Recently, in case of pistol length/brace issues with a Foxtrot Mike 7" side-charger and SB3 brace, I purchased a 16" Foxtrot Mike 9mm complete upper so I had a substitute to put on the lower "just in case." Then a week ago, I thought, why not try an Endomag and a standard lower with that upper? So I purchased a couple Endomags and put them together and was shooting it today....the Endomags run flawlessly in the standard lower. So, thanks to Gunny, I guess I've got two working 9mm carbines now, one a pistol and the other a rifle :)

I travel a lot for work. Be home the forth and then home for a week the off to Tampa. Visited another member in Virginia last Feb. good people here. Had member Daniel Craig over at the house last summer.

Everyone should have a backup generator.
Here in Ca we need them when it’s hot because there isn’t enough power… or if it’s windy and they shut the power off so it won’t start fires… or…:fire:

Gunny is doing well, he said he spent today helping out his family and neighbors clear some downed trees with his chainsaw. I wish we all had more neighbors like that, he’s a good dude .

Stay safe.

I’ve thought of that so often. One of them whole home natural gas ones. But then I’ve lived in the same house in Rhode Island for 51 years and I can count on less than one hand in weeks in those 51 years we’ve lost power. The odd ice storm is usually the culprit. Just fortunate I suppose.

We had a bad one a few miles up canyon in SoCal last season. Edison turned off the power during Santa Ana winds and someone's generator caught fire. Burned down his house, some of his neighbor's houses, and a whole bunch of brush and forest. You just can't win.

I didn’t have power for 2 weeks once.

Never thought I needed a generator.

When I prepare, I prepare to not have a generator. Makes not having one easy.

Great to hear!

I've had a potential range session with him, hadn't been able to make it yet. Contact was only through this forum; but we live close to each other. He's about 15-20 miles East of me, one town (and parish) over. I have friends and family in that town.

They got hit pretty hard. We got power back yesterday, and probably about 50% overall in my area (my neighborhood is back up, but a whole lot aren't). Out his way, things are a lot worse. Brother has a tree still on his house, waiting for the power lines to be cut so they can do the tree. When I got my power back, I loaned my generator to him. Spent my "guns and ammo budget" on another generator, to help out another family- they helped my son out while I was locked in at work for the storm.

I'm afraid that's not so easy down here in South Louisiana. Temps and humidity are both in the 90's, and what they say about dry heat vs high humidity heat is true- the humidity is a killer.

Hope Gunny is doing ok, it's still nasty down here.
