No, the compacts fit my hand perfectly--these are the grips I've been searching for at least two years (Herretts wants the gun to get a perfect fit and they needed several months to do it). I cut off the finger grooves on the Hogues because they were in the way.

My net upgrade for my GP100 is going to be some compact grips like that. I don't need or want a huge grip, and adding the compact might turn the GP into a gun I might actually carry around town from time to time if it didn't have that big ol' rubber knuckle poking out:evil:

On a side note, a little bit wood really makes the blued GP pop, doesn't it? My other Ruger Revolvers are stainless, and while I like them, there is just something so classic and "mean" looking about a dark blue wheel gun with wooden accents.

Hogues are my favorite. I have 'em on two DA M66 Taurus revolvers, on two Ruger P gun autoloaders, and on my Smith and Wesson K frame M10. A Hogue grip on my SP101 was the single best modification to that gun. I HATED the grips it came with, torture to the middle finger with heavy loads.

The SP101 grip is not the same profile as the larger square butt grips.

I always liked the look of the Ruger Compact Grips and when I purchased my GP100 last year I had every intention of immediately putting a set on. After using the Hogue Monogrip I was perfectly happy with it. It fits my hand nicely and provide great cushioning with full power .357 mag loads. I still think the compact grips look good but I am a function before beauty kinda guy.

Hogues

I usually put a pair of HOGUE rubber grips on my revolvers unless they are the round butt J-frame size. I prefer the old UNCLE MIKE'S Boot Grip for that size and the PACHMAYR Presentation rubber grips on large guns like the S&W N frames in .41 or 44 magnum.

I found the HOGUE'S fit my hand better than any other grip and put them on my duty gun back in the 90"s.

Exact opposite with the fingergrip HOGUE'S on a semi-auto. I put them on a SIG 226 and RUGER P-90 and disliked them so much that I replaced them with PACHMAYR'S.

The different sizes and shapes of the competing grips allow people with different size hands to find what works best for them. On revolvers, for me, it is HOGUE'S.

Normally I am a big fan of Hogue but they were juat too big on my 327 GP, and the finger grooves were just not quite right for a high grip. Put some of the schmancy compacts on and am much happier.

These compact grips make the gun concealable under a t-shirt in a Milt Sparks Versa Max 2. They really make the gun for me.

And, yes, the rosewood brightens the gun up!

MCgunner: I, too, put Hogue grips on my SP101 and you're right. Best thing I could have done. I was close to giving up on the gun as the knuckle on my middle finger was so sore I flinched every time I pulled the trigger and consequently couldn't hit squat.
