It appears there is 2 small chips in my rifle glass. How is vortex on warrantying crossfire scopes?

I have found their warranty to be reasonable. In my situation It was a loose eyepiece on a Viper HST 6-25x50. I wasn't pleased with have to ship it myself, it was brand new after all. However, they repaired it swiftly, and shipped it back within the week that they received it. Nine days, if memory serves. As a bonus it seemed to be much clearer than I remembered. Though this could be perceived effect. I also have a Crossfire II on an AR that is without flaw. I would still recommend them.

Is the scope new? Or have you had it awhile, used it on a rifle, and just noticed them?

My understanding that Vortex has the best no questions asked warranty out there for defects and failure. However, if you tried to clean your scope lenses with a screwdriver and chipped the glass, they might ask a few questions.

its about 10-12months old. I just noticed it. I have butler creek caps and just put a different stock on the rifle and looked through it across the basement at a white wall and noticed it on there so took the sunshade off and wiped both lenses with my t shirt and still there. when I rotate the eyepiece its still there but seems to go away when the power is turned down.

I read their warranty but bushnell had a warranty but a few years back a slug scope back lens broke under recoil and I was told too bad.

You say "chips" in the glass; are these visible exterior chips in the glass, or something you see just looking through the scope, or both?

I cant feel or see anything unless looking through the scope. I scraped my finger across the spot on both lenses and cant feel or see anything but they are small chip like dots right on the edge where the glass meets the metal maybe 3-4k away from the metal ring.

some scope makers like to offer what seems to be a iron clad warrenty, but when push comes to shove they seem to back away from their warrenties. i have dealt with tasco-bushnell in the past and found them wanting. when i have used leupolds warrenty services i have never been disappointed, they have even replaced a 40 year old scope with out proof of being the original buyer or sending in a warrenty registation card free of charge. i did have to pay postage to them but they paid return postage to me in a timly manner. i would like to hear from any one who sent a 40 year old scope in for repairs to a modern scope maker today who would honor their warrenty to repair-replace. by the way the scope i sent in was a M-8 3x and what they sent was a FX-11 3x20mm big bore matte # 664163 from the custom shop. your dollar, your choice. eastbank.

I emailed them late last night cause it was poking at me and i just got a response. The chips are covered and send it in and they will have it sent out within 5-6 days from the date they receive it.

Never heard of paying the shipping w/ Vortex.

Well I don't 'like' this but yes, I did pay the shipping there. They paid on the way back. I don't think this is unreasonable. It was mounted and shot a few times. So I suppose not 'brand new'.

well I'm not sure what to think now. Vortex received the scope today at 8am and I got an email around 7pm the scope is on its way back to me and will be here Wednesday. I really hope they fixed it right. I shined my pocket flashlight down at the eye piece lens to see if it was external and it appeared internal which has me a little worried.

I'm sure they either fixed it or are sending you a new scope. Wouldn't be surprised if you get a new one. There is a huge mark-up on scopes and quite often it is easier to replace instead of fix. I of course don't know what Vortex cost is but wholesale price to a big distributor is around 60% off MSRP. That's not conjecture, I know it for a fact. So if Vortex has a scope with a $500.00 MSRP then they sell it to a dealer for about $200.00. So I would imagine their cost is around $100.00.

I have my turrets marked so we will see when they send it back. The less than 24hr turn around had me a little suspect but I always see the worst case.

I just reread your original post to see which scope you have. Since it is a Crossfire I'm betting you are getting a new scope.

No new scope. I emailed them last night and just said i was curious what was going on if it was something i did and if so how could it be prevented. The guy emailed me back at 7am this morning and said the powder coating inside was flaked off and fell down inside the scope and that he was very sorry this happened to me that they fixed it and re purged it and assembled and sent it back. Im guessing when it took its spill when the bipod broke it knocked something loose. he apologized again and said if it happens again they will take care of me.

Overall im very happy as i explained to them in email before getting the return label that its my woodchuck gun and was wondering how long the turn over would be as the beans are getting high and the hay is coming off and looks like they paid a little more for shipping to get it back to me.
