VPC speaks out against "smart guns"

"The Guns in America survey finds that more than three quarters of handguns now possessed by private individuals hold fewer than 10 rounds of ammunition—reflecting the fact that most of these handguns are revolvers. Handguns produced today are primarily pistols with 10-round magazines. Gun owners who "trade up" to smart guns would generally get a pistol of higher caliber and capacity. Therefore, the introduction of personalized guns could greatly increase the lethality of the country's privately held gun stock."

Are all of you 1911 owners shocked to hear that it's actually a revolver? So are all of you Makarov owners, Tokarev owners, Walther PP owners...
That is , of course, based on their 'Guns in America' survey. Anyone here participate in that one?
Quick show of hands: how many of you are just dying to trade in your 1911, Makarov, etc... revolvers for a shiny new smart gun which holds

They're trying to do the Bugs Bunny thing on us.

Me: VPC needs a strategist that watches fewer cartoons!

First they complained that large-capacity 9mms were 'assault pistols', then they claimed the tiny 10 shots were 'Pocket Rockets', and now they're saying we keep upgrading. Well, duh. :rolleyes: If I can only carry 10 rounds of ammo, I want it in the biggest caliber normally available and the smallest overall size. Thus 10 shots of .45acp in a wide-body Officers 1911 or a Glock 30.

Wow, a weapon's lethality is determined by its features, not its use!!! Maybe VPC should start writing training manuals?:D

Don't they hire anyone who knows anything about firearms out there? Are they getting these people from the Folklore Department of some East Coast Eloi university?

The rocket scientists at the VPC have just realized that if they actually get smart guns, they're going to have to let people have them. Can't have that, therefore smart guns are now bad.

Using the typical agenda-determines-facts logic that they adore so, they will now, in a complete reversal, describe how smart guns are the worst thing you could possibly inject into American society. For the love of Jesus! Think of the CHILDREN!

Hmm, lets look at the silver lining here. If you have both the NRA and VPC speaking out against smart guns (albeit for completely different reasons) maybe, just maybe, the tide will turn and idiot states like NJ and mine will stop passing laws that ban all but smart guns as soon as they are available. Heck, maybe we can even get some of these laws that are out there removed ("Well, Delegate Ihate Agun, you do realize the VPC considers smart guns an insidious danger. We must prevent that kind of weapons technology from getting into the hands of the general public").:D
 
What is the view of the Violence Policy Center on personalized guns?

Personalized gun technology may prevent a very small percentage of gun-related death and injury. It could perhaps prove valuable for law enforcement officers, since a significant percentage of officers killed or wounded in the line of duty are shot with their own or their partner's service weapon.?

Um, guys, so far only one state has mandated this technology, and police guns are exempt. No police officer who knows anything about firearms would trust his/her life to a "personalized" gun.
 
The best part...

"The very existence and feasibility of the smart gun is speculative at best. The Violence Policy Center is aware of no working, reliable model of a personalized gun such as its advocates envision. Certainly, none is actually in everyday use today."

Um, isn't that why it's called a "concept." Then again I think about VPC and remember that hypothesis are as good as fact to them :)

Just another case of dumb and dumber.....


DUMB: The whole idea of 'smart guns' (reasons too numerous to mention).

Dumber: The idea that 'smart guns' will make any sort of dent in murder.

Dumberer: Well just about anything VPC postulates (too numerous to mention)

I think I'll change my signature line to read sumthin like: "VPC is proof that there is a God - for if it were left to 'survival of the fittest' the human race could never produce a gene pool mingled with such stupidity and still have survived."

Let's see... (FYI)

twist - spin - rotate - revolve.

Seems that all guns with rifling (or "pistoling" if you prefer :) ) are - in fact - "revolvers" since the projectile thrown is "revolving" at least some time during its airborne moment(s).

And, unless that smart gun concept operates on smooth-bore technology, it too is a revolver.
 
VPC also isn't keen on licensing and registration ... and other halfway gun control. This is about: "See, this halfway stuff doesn't work. We need a BAN."

VPC is the only major anti-gun group that openly calls for bans (versus "common sense blahblahblah but we don't want to take away your guns"). That makes VPC an odd critter. It is the most honest about its goals, but the least honest in achieving those goals
 
VPC speaks out against "smart guns"

Of course they are speaking out against smart guns, these guns are so smart that even the unreliable prorotypes are smarted than the VPC.
