Man shot after barging into apartment

    By Ian Ith
    Seattle Times staff reporter

A Seattle man was in critical condition this morning after being shot in the chest last night after barging his way into an apartment on Capitol Hill and attacking a man inside, police said.

The man who shot the intruder was released while police investigate whether the shooting was indeed self-defense, police said this morning.

About five friends, including the man who was shot, were visiting in the apartment at the corner of East Olive Way and 15th Avenue East when the man began a heated argument with his ex-girlfriend, said Seattle police spokeswoman Deanna Nollette.

The ex-boyfriend, who is in his 20's, was told to leave. As he did, he said he was going to get a gun, Nollette said.

The renter of the apartment called a downstairs neighbor, also in his 20s, and asked him to come to the apartment with his gun, just in case, Nollette said.

A while later, the ex-boyfriend came back to the apartment building but was not buzzed in despite repeated demands. Instead he waited until another tenant opened the front door, then he pushed his way inside, police said.

The ex-boyfriend then attacked the downstairs neighbor, slamming him against a wall hard enough to leave a crater, Nollette said. While protecting himself from the ex-boyfriend's attack, the neighbor pulled his own pistol and shot the ex-boyfriend.

Police did not find a weapon on the ex-boyfriend, Nollette said.

Not a lot of information in that story, but it sounds like a good shoot from what is there. I'd like to know how he got into the apartment when he returned, kick in the door or what.

One thing to be learned from that story, don't threaten to come back with a gun and then come back, people may just think that you meant it.

Another thing to be learned: It is not wise to slam an armed man into a wall.

    Man shot

Sounds like he was threatning and asking for trouble--which he rec'd in form of a bullet
