Just heard about this and wondered if anyone attended the 8am hearing this morning? If so, what was the outcome?

Have not seen anything yet.

Heard, but cannot verify that the Washington State Council of Police & Sheriffs support the bill.

Anyway, they are supposed to read again at 10:00 this morning (01/13/2011)

The language of the bill is concerning though - continues to illegalize knives with blades that open with the flick of the wrist, which is about all of modern designed knives...

Sec. 1. RCW 9.41.250 and 2007 c 379 s 1 are each amended to read
as follows:
(1) Every person who:
(a) Manufactures, sells, or disposes of or possesses any instrument
or weapon of the kind usually known as slung shot, sand club, or metal
knuckles, or spring blade knife, or any knife the blade of which is
automatically released by a spring mechanism or other mechanical
device, or any knife having a blade which opens, or falls, or is
ejected into position by the force of gravity, or by an outward,
downward, or centrifugal thrust or movement;
(b) Furtively carries with intent to conceal any dagger, dirk,
pistol, or other dangerous weapon; or
(c) Uses any contrivance or device for suppressing the noise of any
firearm unless the suppressor is legally registered and possessed in
accordance with federal law,
is guilty of a gross misdemeanor punishable under chapter 9A.20 RCW.
p. 1 HB 1016
(2) Subsection (1)(a) of this section does not apply to:
(a) The possession of a spring blade knife by a law enforcement
officer while the officer:
(i) Is on official duty; or
(ii) Is transporting the knife to or from the place where the knife
is stored when the officer is not on official duty; or
(b) The storage of a spring blade knife by a law enforcement
officer.

However, I emailed all of these representatives:

Dear representative(s):

I am a decorated US Army veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn. Like you, I have taken the oath to support and defend the U.S. Constitution, including the Second Amendment to the Bill of Rights. I am soon moving to Washington State. I am in full support of the use of firearm suppressors (also called 'silencers') for recreation, home defense and self defense usage.

Suppressor technology is an inexpensive way to reduce the 'nuisance' noise of shooting ranges, protect the hearing of firearm sportsman and those involved in self-defense shootings in the home, which can cause deafening noise in close quarters. Much like mufflers help to keep automobiles quieter for public safety and to reduce nuisance noises, firearm suppressors can effectively protect the hearing of shooters beyond what standard ear protection can.

Suppressors have been unfairly villianized by the media, movies and television. Illegal use of these, and use of these in criminal acts, is rare. Just like with gun control in general, they have been painted in an demonistic light. The reality is that, like with guns in general, they can cause more benefit than harm, and the use is entirely up to the end user.

I support the legalization of ownership, possession, and use of suppressors for lawful purposes.

Thank you.

Leadcounsel

Hey everyone,
I'm new here and I would really like to help this cause. I am a constituent here in Washington and believe the suppressor law is bogus. Please let me know who I can draft a letter for and I would be happy to. Thanks, Mike

I was going to say "Hans Dunshee, good luck getting help from that leftie". But, I see there's a Hans Zeiger in the senate. Uncommon name, who knew?

Dunshee isn't worth a bucket of stale puke for 2A rights. Zeiger, while he's never specifically said anything to me on the issue, is a good kid, and we go back a long way and he does know that it's a very important issue to some of his constituents...

!!! Hey Hey Hey !!!

1016-2011 passed the house 88-4, 6 exempt, just about 90% of the house is FOR fixing it.

Pretty much every WA State Rep needs to be contacted ASAP

This is now moving to the Senate, then if favorable, Queen G takes a stab at it.
