Walmart and Guns

Not a single Walmart in 100 miles selling guns

I live in Greenacres, FL and there is not a Walmart withing 100 miles that sells guns any more and most carry very little ammo. I drove to every one I could find personally. I could not believe it when I heard it. I went a saw for myself.

If you know of a Walmart within 100 miles of the 33467 area code that still sells guns, I'd like to know about it. Although given their current policies, I doubt I will ever do business there again.

local walmart told me that they havent had WWB 9mm in the warehouse in the last month

the wally world here isn't rationing ammo, but as of sun. morning they were out of wwb 9mm.

i bought the last of it.:neener:

I heard the same thing at my local walmart about the warehouse running out.

Very peculiar.

i dont know if they are rationing ammo or not. i really couldn't care less. i wont even walk through their "gun" department anymore. as far as i am concerned, they could put in a peanut farm in it place. if they are going to be "anti- gun" then be anti gun. get rid of them and ammo, and hunting clothing and all the rest of the stuff that goes along with it. all of the local gun stores and us would be better served by dealing with someone that cares and is interested in the industry.

not ammo related or an attempt at thread jacking, but a couple months ago i was at a wm and purchased three gun mags 2000 rnds 22, 2 boxes of 38's, and 2 boxes of 357's and all the clerk had to say was "guns are bad".

Seriously? Jeez. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but not always to SHARE it! IE, I think that waiting until 30 seconds untill we close (at the end of a 13-hour day) and coming in and wanting a refill on your Viagra is "bad," but I have more tact than to TELL the customer that! :what:

I guess the quality of the gun department depends heavily on the individual store. The Wal-Mart near my parents' in the NC mountains actually has a decent selection of reloading supplies and components, not to mention loaded ammo and firearms. It's the only Wal-Mart I've ever seen selling reloading supplies.

no.... but it bothers me that whenever I buy ammo the guy is shaking his head in disapproval. Why is that necessary?

Just bought 4 boxes of .45 tonight. The guy didn't even ask me for ID, let alone swipe it.

Not sure where the OP heard about this "corporate policy," but I'm not seeing it.

Last time I was in the one in the Stamford area, no such sign, but they had pretty bare shelves... except for boxes and boxes of .38 Super, a few hundred rounds. How wierd is that for Wall Mart?

he heard it from the same people that say that concealed/open carry is against "corporate policy"; managers that dont know any better, or are trying to set their own policy.

Its a heavy product to ship and with gas prices they are probably cutting back. My Walmart, which has guns, has had trouble getting ammo shipped in.

Local NM Wally World, bought 100 rnds .22 mag., and 50 rnds. .357. Lady clerk was obviously clueless about anything to do with firearms and ammunition. As an afterthought, she did ask if these were for handguns or rifles - caught me by surprise, as I hadn't been asked that before. I explained that they were dual ammunition, suitable for handguns or rifles - that really confused her! Just to put her at ease, I said both are for rifles, and who cares? No carding - I look like I might have been one of Teddy Roosevelts original Rough Riders, so no age questions. These folks are just sales clerks, and are told what to do, and what to ask - so I try to be civil to them - just so none pull the statement in an earlier post,"guns are bad" - that will result in a long talk between the manager on duty, and the aberrant clerk. With the recent, and continuing price rise of ammo, I need to use Wally World, like it or not.

Our Wally World has almost two full shelves (last week when I was in there) of 9mm and .45ACP 100rnd bulk packs. i don't think they are rationing.

Picked up 200 rounds of 45ACP and 100 rounds of 9mm last Sunday and wasn't carded. They usually ask my age, but he didn't this time, maybe because I'm in there buying ammo all the time.

seems kind of silly to turn away paying customers.

What happens if you walk in, buy 5, pay, put in car, return, buy 5, etc?

What happens if you ignore the sign?

What happens if you say "YOU ARE ONLY DENYING ME THIS SALE BECAUSE OF MY RELIGION/SEXUAL ORIENTATION/ETHNICITY" at the top of your lungs.

If I had a 40 or 45 I'd love to take one extra, and if they cite the sign simply point out "But I am not buying 45mm"

Sometimes I get asked my age, and sometimes they ask to see my ID, but no swiping. The only time it got swiped was for beer at 7-11.

Gee... I don't really like that much, and not many things upset me too much.

In CO the license do have a mag strip on the back, and I do swipe licenses/ID's in my vehicle when I am clearing people. This works well, and I like it well enough (also helps identify some of the better fake ID's more easily).

But, I don't see any reason why I should have to swipe an ID to buy ammo, cold medicine, etc. I understand checking my ID, but it might be going a bit far when this stuff is electronically recorded with every purchase (though, keep in mind that the voluntary use "value" cards store the same kind of information every time you use them).

If they are swiping ID's load the checkout with everything you need from WM (stock up) and a box of ammo last. When they want to swipe your ID, tell them you will shop somewhere else. Then go let customer service know why someone is now restocking a cart full of their merchandise. If sporting goods won't let you take the ammo up front before swiping ID, let them have the full cart. Maybe 10 or twenty of your shooting friends would like to do the same some busy friday evening.
