Walther P22 pistol

I would like to see everyones impression of Walthers .22 caliber pistol.It has interchangeable barrels, grips and even a silencer is available.....
Anybody own one or have shot one? Let me know,they look like a great buy.

The Firing Line has lots of info. Mine had a DA trigger that was too heavy for me to keep.

I just sent mine back to S&W for repairs. It would fail to return to battery after last round and would jam (fail to feed). I also had a few light strikes.

That being said, I like the gun. It is a blast to shoot and really helps with trigger control. Since it looks more like an automatic and less like a range gun, I will often shoot 100 rounds through it before moving on to my other guns. This sets a good trigger pull in my head and solidifies my technique. The DA is tough...I mostly use it in SA.

Great little plinker that always puts smiles on peoples faces.

Some people have experienced similar problems as me while others have had no problems at all. S&W sent out a FedEx return label to pick up the gun...so we shall see on the repair job.

For the price, you can't beat it as an addition to the collection. I bought the 5" barrel for mine in addition to the 3". I don't care for the 5" and will probably never use it...I'll stick with the 3".

I bought mine for my daughter to learn how to shoot. I have around 2000 rnds down mine and my last outing last weekend I shot about 200 rnds and did not have a single failure to feed or fire. I find it to be a fun gun and reasonably accurate. I have the 5" version but the sights are very "gappy" for good work.

I think the key is to load the magazines carefully and then no problems. Also the DA has loosened and lightened a lot with use.

I really like mine.

I've got about 200 rounds through it (a 5 inch model). No problems. DA, in a word, sucks. SA is quite nice. Recoil is minor and even though it's got a tiny grip it still fits and aims very well.

I followed the feeding problems that the first ones had and waited until they ironed that out. Glad I did.

bpisler, keep in mind there are adjustable backstraps to fit the gun to your hand better, as well as finger-rest magazines. But hey, if it doesn't feel right to you, it just doesn't feel right!

I would wait until the CZ 122 becomes available in the US (have one, and they are absolutely great, are moderately priced and look very cool too )

or you could check out the new S&W .22's. I haven't read anything about them, but they look pretty good to me.

The P22 is way too fun. I like that it doesn't look (or sound) like you're average .22LR target gun also. Everyone that sees it wants to shoot it, especially women of smaller stature.

I normally go through a bulk box of ammo (550 rounds) when I shoot my 22. Has anyone gone through warmed up the barrel enough to see how much shooting they can go through in one sitting?

The CZ122 is not coming to America, at least anytime soon. I contacted CZ-USA and they said they had no plans to import. Bummer. EAA won't submit the IZH35M for testing here in Kali...double bummer.

My first outing with the P22 sent about 600-700 rounds downrange. But not all were from me. The females in our group tend to enjoy it just as much (if not more) and it's tough to steal it away from them to shoot more than a couple mags full before they take it back.

How easy are the P22's to clean? Ranked 1-10, '1' being as easy as a Glock, and '10' like the 1st time you took apart a 1911 or Ruger Mk II.

7 for the long barrel version and 9 for the short barrel version. Having to remove the fake compensator is annoying but required to remove the slide. At least they thought ahead and included a guide rod to be able to get the recoil spring and everything in place correctly.

My wife's P22 5' has been working fine when we only load the magazines with 9 rounds. Otherwise, the first one fed jams. Not worth the trouble to send in. Maybe another 400 rounds will break it in enough to not have a problem, but since it is only a plinker, it's not a big deal. It was an intro purchase before she gets a P99 which is ever increasing in price it seems. But it has been a fun gun, especially since I don't have my own .22 pistol yet.

If Glock is a baseline of 1...I'd rate the short-barreled P22 a 2: disassembly is about as easy as a Glock, but putting it back together is slightly more fun (hence the 2 overall rating).

On a happy note, my son's P22 (a gift from a pistol-packin' Santa)
was terribly prone to jamming, but after 500-800 rounds seems to have worked thru the problem.
