And one WAAaaaay fun pistol to shoot!
I love mine. VERY accurate, and I bought the short barrel version. The quality is great. (As any German made gun would be.) I think that the only thing I would change is the "slack" in the trigger.
I tried several brands of ammunition, all hiper V, and oddly the only negative thing was a couple of "FTF" with Stingers. (Of all things!) My P22 "felt" better with the truncated bullets of "Yellow Jackets". The YJ's also made a nice "star-burst" pattern at the muzzle. I liked that.
I purchased some Mini-Mag +V's (same truncated bullet but FMJ instead of hollow point), but the indoor range lost it's lease! 
So, until they re-open at another location, I'll have to put testing on hold. (It's cold and wet in Kentucky and my old joints hurt when I shoot outside now. Kinda takes the fun out of it.

I bought the short barreled version, and was not very happy with it at first, jam, jam, misfire, jam, etc. I had to put about 800 rounds through it before it became reliable. Since then, it hasn't had 1 single problem. I really love mine, and can shoot it very well.

Glad to hear yours straightened out...gave my 2 boys handguns for Christmas this year: a Beretta 21A and a Walther P22; both have been nothing but nightmares with one or more failures to feed and fire almost every magazine. The most "reliable" has been CCI Stinger, with CCI Velocitor a close second. Most other ammo brands preform in single shot mode only in both of these pistols.
We've put about 5 boxes of ammo through each with no improvement...I expect to have future posts regarding S&W/Walther and Beretta's customer service

I have about 1900 rnds out of my 5" p22. I shot it on friday of this week, and put another 200 rnds out of it. No failures to feed or fire. No problems, good accuracy. Cheap remington ammo. Original magazines and I have not done any modifications to it.
I think the key to the p22 is shoot it a lot, wear it in and then load the mags carefully. I always make sure each round is properly seated and alighned.
I bought it to train my daughter how to shoot a gun. She is currently 2.5. I figure by the time she is 4 or 5, I will get at least 10,000 rnds down it and it will be perfect. So far I am shooting about 200 rnds a month out of it.
By the way, I do not like the sights, to wide of a gap for my eye. Other then that, it is an excellent plinker that I will continue to play with. By the way, it is more reliable then my 15 year old ruger mark 1 by a long shot.

I've got the 5 inch barrel model, with the barrel weight that looks like a compensator. Its been a sweet little gun. If you've had some problems, look at the mags. The new ones have little slits on the side. If you have the old one, they will swap it for the new one.

That sounds just like mine. I had to put about 16 boxes through mine in order to get it to function right. Go buy a box of 550 and run those through the P22, without cleaning. Clean it after you are through, then try 50 or so rounds of MiniMags or some other "quality" ammo.

im thinking of picking up one of these before long, what should i expect the damage to be for the 5" version???

I have the short barrel version. At first it jammed every now and then, but then I learned that it was not the magazine, but how I was loading it - quick and sloppy
As long as you make sure all of the rounds are seated/aligned properly, you won't have too many problems. For a little plinker, it's nice.
The only I complaint I have is that it can take some "fooling" with to determine what the optimal method is for putting the slide back on the frame. Everyone who handles the gun (friends, shop folk, etc.) seems to have a slightly different method.
If you get a chance to see one in a shop, ask the salesperson to field strip it. You'll see exactly what I mean

Put down the deposit for the 5" version last Friday- price was $325. I've seen them at gun shows for a little less, (say 300), but with this new handgun law in Maryland, I don't mind supporting the local dealer. I've heard that the magazines that end with -A have solved a lot of the feeding problems. Looking forward to checking it out!

Had one and sold it. Cute pistol, good for small hands. Wanted to use it to train newbies.
Mine required high-velocity ammo. Cycled pretty well with it, once I figured out how to load the mags just so. But it was never terribly accurate (I'm spoiled in that department).
The thing I liked least was the DA trigger, which was literally too heavy for me to use. It didn't matter all that much for my own use, since I don't use DA/SA guns, but it made the P22 less than ideal for training others.
If you can find one with a decent DA trigger, you're willing to buy CCI mini-mags, and you don't need it to be a tack driver, it will work. Then again, if you have a CZ, you'll be better off with the Kadet kit.
