Hi-caps (16 rnds.) for the 9mm aren't all that expensive; they can be purchased new for between $70 and $80 ea. - I have six.

Unless you're a LEO, hi-caps for the .40 are not available.

hrm...last time I checked (granted, a number of months ago) they were in the $120 range. Of course, being where I live, I'd have to specifically hunt down the '15' rounders that are out there somewhere.....

Unless N.J. law prohibits you from buying hicaps out-of-state, it's not really all that difficult. I bought mine from www.gunbroker.com (seller: [email protected]). There's another fellow, Robert Johnson, IIRC, ([email protected]) that sells them for $70 ea.

BTW, the capacity for the Walther/Mec-Gar P99 magazines is 16 (not 15). :)

Unless you buy the Turkish 15 round mags that have not been altered in any way to allow 16 rounds or, you buy Mec-Gar mag springs through Walther Germany that are used in the Turkish mags to limit the capacity to 15 rounds like I did to comply with the NJ 15 round max mag capacity law. ;)

When inserted into the 16 round mags, they limit the travel of the follower to decrease the capacity to 15 rounds.

If you check the Mec-Gar mag bodies you will find witness holes for 5-10-15 and 8-12-16.

I own 3 in 9mm. One with rollmarks (AB), Two with laseretching(AC) as spares.

Great piece, accurate, reliable, easy to change sights without going to a smith:D

I use an Alessi CQC/S with it.

PS. Since Canada requires a 106mm barrel to be legal, our 9mm and .40 ones too come straight from Germany!!!

NO importation marks or S&W:uhoh: marks on the right side of slide at all!!!! If some US fans are very picky re. markings consider ordering one from a Canadian Store.

Try www.milarm.com

yes, i love the no import marks...........it makes the gun alot more asthetically pleasing............I wish i had bought the MI6 version way back when..........

by the way Jim, these turkish mags that i see on gunbroker, will they hold 16 rounds? one seller said they would

Also i have been talking to Mr robert johnson, is he a reliable established source?

I've never seen one up close but they were designed to hold 15 rounds due to the restrictions imposed on mag capacity in Turkey.
I guess if the springs were weak you could "stuff" an additional round in.

I think many have replaced the original springs with ones from 16 round mags.

I have never dealt with Mr. Johnson but have read nothing but good about his business ethics.

Here is a photo comparing the two Walther P99 mag springs.
Both are Walther/Mec-Gar. Both are brand new, never been used.
Notice the difference in length which determines the magazine capacity of the two.
Notice the difference in the coils.
I thought, as many do, that Walther used a different follower to compensate for the capacity but they don't. It's the spring.
I learned this from Walther Germany when I ordered the 15 round mag springs.

The 9mm Walther/Mec-Gar magazines made for Turkey were designed to hold 15 rounds due to Turkish restrictions. Some of these Turkish magazines have been modified by Mec-Gar for sale in the USA (and maybe other places, as well) to hold 16 rounds. I have two, 16 round, non-Turkish Walther P99/Mec-Gar magazines and I have four, 16 round, Turkish Walther P99/Mec-Gar magazines. They are identical in every way to each other except for the witness hole location.
It really takes a keen eye to spot the difference. All six of these magazines have functioned flawlessly, to date.

I've had a P99 .40 cal for about a year now. I've got 1200 rounds through it without a single problem. An excellent gun all around. I have to admit that it has replaced my Glock 22.

back strap problems

i recieved my Euro p99 pmm from earl just days ago and have already fired it much............but one problem, and this is minor......i prefer the medium backstrap that comes installed, and this one is the euro one with the lanyard cuttout, but for some reason this strap seems to "small" width wise....it leaves exposed edges of the fame and makes for very uncomfortable handling especially during recoil.......I contact Earl about it yesterday and he put me a replacement strap in the mail that day. Now thats awesome service even after the sale.........I will report when i receive, it but is this a widespread problem? i have oned one p99 in the past and handle countless ones and have never seen that problem, usually the straps are flush with the frame................any one else encountered this?
