any advice about the walther p99; i saw one for $400. Is this a good price? Anything on potential problems, etc. My knowledge of walther stopped somewhere around reading about the walther p.38

Is it an A/S model? It has a better trigger than the new QA - the A/S has a SA/DA trigger, and the SA part is sweet. The QA has a consistent trigger, like a Glock. But it is heavier.

The SW99 is the same as the A/S Walther pretty much - same trigger. Get it now. Both the SW99 and the A/S walther is no longer available - they have switched to the newer trigger. It sucks too - I'd like to replace my Beretta w/ another Walther, but I can't seem to find a new A/S in person in 9mm anywhere (I won't buy off the internet; I only buy if I can see it first).

Good buy...

This is a good buy, especially if it is a 1999 or 2000 model. Those pistols are all-German made, and built to tighter tolerances than the S&W collaborations. Don't get me wrong, the newer Walthers and the S&W cousins are good, and probably worth the $400 anyway. But a 1999 or 2000 model is a "go-get-right-now" kinda deal.

BTW, new or used?

I personally prefer the look of the later frame and slide redesign instead of the older designs...

I like mine. It has the reliability of the glock, but with proper ergonomics :)

thanks guys

the walther is at a local shop in mo. $400 for a year 2k gun. Seems like it wasn't used too much, and for paying cash, the guy will let it go for 370. Considering what you put out I think I'll get it

If that is an A/S trigger, I'd be all over that like a bad rash :p

U can always hard chrome the slide later if there is wear on it - $80 at Tripp Research. I had my compact Walther slide done,a nd am waiting on getting my SW99 slide back (a Walther clone).

The AS is still being made, it's just not being imported. No I don't know why, my guess is inbreeding in Germany since it's the best thing since sliced bread.

Also for the record, every 9mm ever made is all German. S&W produced some .40 slides for a short time, but to assume that the all German .40s are in some way superior to the mixed breed is just foolish gun snobbery.

I hope you got that walther, thats a great deal. I have a p99 sa/da, titanium coated slide. Its my favorite handgun period. Mine is the older style (03 model) just before they switched to the new rail and grooves on slide. I want a compact in the new style, just havent found a good deal yet. I paid almost 700 for mine, new, with 2 hi-cap mags, so i say get it, if its in good condition. Mine was shipped to the gunshop from NY and I thought it was a qa model when i ordered it, when it arrived it was the sa/da model, and i am so glad it is, i love the trigger, and would now not get the qa.
