I am extremely glad to announce that as a result of market demand and customer input, Walther announced today to continue selling the popular PPQ M1 (Classic) in the United States in limited quantities. This means Walther will continue to manufacture and then sell in the US market the PPQ with a traditionalthumb and paddle style magazine release. Availability will be early 2014 with Walther continuing its full support of PPQ M1 (Classic) firearms already sold and in the market with production of magazines and accessories. We appreciate your full support, input and patience.

As a side note, PPQ M1 magazines have been shipping all this week.

Mark Thomas
Director of Marketing
Walther Arms, Inc.

* They will be making the PPQ Original/M1/Classic version available again early next year.

This is good news.

Too bad quantities will be "limited." I have a feeling they will be next-to-impossible to find locally.

Possibly, but that prevents them becoming orphans in the short term and keeps resale values up. That has to be a critical part of any successful marketing plan for Walther to challenge seriously Glock and Smith. They don't need vocal haters. I passed on a cheaper M1 a couple of weeks ago when I bought my M2 over concerns of obsolescence - glad to see that's not in play any longer.

I sold my used PPQ for $900 (bidders on GB) when they announced they were going to stop bringing them to the U.S. market. Great gun, but magazine prices are too high.

I'll probably get another, because that is one great trigger......

I don't think they were ever in danger of becoming orphans, since the majority of parts (including mags) are interchangeable with the current-gen P99, which Walther has stated they have no plans to discontinue. The PPQ M1 itself is still sold in the European military/LE market as the P99Q or P99RAD.

What would be obsolete. The only difference between the M1 and M2 was the mag and mag catch. The M1 uses the gen 2 P99 mags which are much easier to find than the unicorn M2 mags.

This is exactly why I have ZERO interest in the PPQ M2. In addition to the stockpile of P99 mags I already have, new mags for the PPQ M1 (Magnum Research branded Mec-Gar mags that are identical to the Walther-branded ones) are readily available online for ~$27 apiece.

The PPQ M2 magazines aren't hard to find and aren't expensive, at least now and recently. Kentucky Gun Company had a bunch for $32 and change, and Grabagun (at this writing) has some for $34 and change. I expect Walther understands this is important and will make them available. You do have to be ready to buy when they're available, but that isn't unusual.

ETA: Grabagun and Midway both show them in stock.

And with the PPQ M1 selling out so quickly...makes one scratch the head doesn't it?

any chance a ppq will be made in 45 acp to appeal to the u.s.? probably not. it looks like the p99, sw99, and magnum research mr9 all take the same mags

I don't get it either, I've got 2 PPQ-9 M1s and I'd like to add a 3rd whenever they come back in. Used M1s are going for more than they cost new. I've got quite a few PPQ and Magnum Research mags and have made the training switch to the "paddle" so there's no way I'm going back.

It boggles the mind when a manufacturer knows a product is impossible to keep in stock and they will not produce/import more.

S&W marketed a SW99 in .45ACP for a few years, but very few were sold. I doubt Walther will go down that road again.

I'll be happy if they just produce enough 9mm PPQ M1s to keep a few on the gunstore shelves so I have a chance to pick one up.

They do. The PPQ M1 will also accept these mags (as long as they are the gen2 variety).
