Like most guys on this board I want a walther wa2000. Again like most guys I don't have the coin for one. So I just shoe-horned a Remington 742 woodsmaster into an aluminum frame. The side plates look rough because I sandblasted off the sharpie i used for layout. I am working on the wood stocks now, once I have that step completed I'll figure out the internals. Then its time for a fluff and buff and a range trip. Comments?

Did you make your aluminum frame to the same measurements as a WA2000? Having never seen one in person, i'm not sure how large they are.
 
Yes the frame is within 1.5 inches length wise, as best I can tell it is spot on vertically, the weight is within 10%. Everything I know about this weapons is from what I have read online. I doubt the accuracy will be close to the original. The fit and finish will probably not be as good as walther either.

Those aren't what you're looking for though are they? You can spit polish it up better or even sell the idea to someone. If it turns out good, I'd sure buy one.

I have the stocks roughed out, here is what they look like on the frame. I made them from some mahogany I found. I also made a charging handle. I don't have a lathe so I drilled through the aluminum stock, put an appropriately sized bolt through and chucked the whole mess in a drill. I ground down a broken drill bit to a turning tool and locked it in a machinist vice. The surface finish is lacking but I don't think anyone will notice. ;)
 
Another update: I am working on the trigger mechanism. I used the parts I have pulled from converted saigas. A little machining for a housing to hold everything inside the remington, and then cut a transfer bar out of a piece of 3/8x 3/8 stainless I had laying around. You can see in the pics the finish on the aluminum is pretty poor a few beers and dull tools will do that :eek:
