with my next paycheck i want to buy a semi auto .22. thinking model 60 or 10/22. 10/22 costs more but it has fun accesories. iron sights only, ill pick up a mk2bv with a scope eventually

Marlin 60. About as good as you will get for the money. Ruger is also great once you spend 2 or 3X the amount you paid for the rifle replacing all the Ruger components.

Do a search, you'll find the votes going for the Marlin over the Ruger by a respectable margin, and my experience with both also says "go with the model 60".

From my exp with several tube fed and mag fed guns... the tube fed are always faster to reload then the mag fed. Not to mention there is way less thumb strain. I'm talking about total time, thats how long it takes to fill the mags, not just how long it takes to swap them out. Also most tube fed guns have more capcity then mag fed.

marlin 10/22 is there some secret merger? ive fired a model 60 liked it but found it small love the tube mag though.no experience with the ruger. i plan to get a cz452fs for target shooting and hunting with iron sights but also want a good semi for fun

If its a plinking gun your after try the mossberg int'l 702 plinkster in .22 lr. I have one and never had troubles. NEVER jamed once. Ive fired around 3000 shells if i remember correctly. I just got a scope on it and am also pleased. They are cheaper in price compared to marlins and rugers. I got mine at Wally-world. The sticker price is right at $100 now I believe.

Ha, ha - yep, that's about the long and the short of it, from my perspective.

If you're going to shoot a good 500rds of .22lr, that 15rd tube magazine on the Marlin 60 will be quite nice on you. Loading up 500rds of .22lr into 10/22 magazines will give you lead covered hands and sore thumbs.

The Marlin 60 will do you well then. Find a good used one and shoot the snot out of it. Best shooting .22 for the money, period.

Both are great guns, I own a 10/22 and have shot several Model 60s. If you can find an older model Marlin, the tube will hold 18 rounds instead of 15. Look on www.cheaperthandirt.com for a tube speedloader for tube fed .22s. That'll make your reloading even quicker.

pick them both up and see what you like. they feel different.
Out of the box the marlin has an edge in accuracy, and thats it, well maybe the trigger but I have never felt one that is any better than a 10/22.
As for the magazine issue, tube vs. detachable mag, it's a matter of personal preference, I prefer detachable magazines as it makes for easier reloading because I can carry spare mags with me, but the tube will hold more, if you don't mind the magazine sticking out of the bottom then you have the option of going high capacity mag with the 10/22, up to 80 rounds, and maybe more. There are multiple speed loaders for the 10/22 and I know of one for the 60.
The Ruger also has the capability to be modified in any way you want, from full on tacticool sniper, M1 Garand clone, a very nice bench target rifle, to a beautiful showpiece, whatever you wan't. The 60 there is not much to change, I believe you can get a stock for it.

They will both outlast most people, it would take multiple lifetimes to wear out either with general use. And it does not really matter as you can keep replacing parts on either.

In my experience which includes 4 10/22 and 3 Marlins, the Marlins are more accurate out of the box. If it is only going to be a plinker I would go 10/22, I think it is more fun. Marlin tubes can be a little fragile, I have a 981T and sometimes I find the tube end is a little bent where the tube locks on even thought I can't think of anything I would have done to cause it.

nylon 66?

Does anybody know where to get a nylon 66? they've always looked good to me even for a plastic rifle and i was confounded in my most recent search.

I have only the 60, but I wanted a 10/22 until I bought a GSG-5. I don't think you'll do wrong with either. Just buy the "cheapie" Ruger if you're going to "tacticalize." If not, they make some nice ones just as Marlin does the 60.
