My RWS 36 was stolen sometime ago and I need to replace it. I'm not up to speed on any new air rifles. My 36 was around 25 years old and it did all I needed to do to keep the rodent and crow population in check. I have a 22LR CZ455 but just to keep the neighbors happy I would rather use an air rifle.

I know they have different types of rifles now but all I really want to do is replace the springer I had. I just got off the phone with a my firearms dealer who also sells air rifles and he recommended the RWS 34 with the scope package. I understand they have an adjustable trigger now so that would be an upgrade.

I'm probably going to pick up a 34 in the next few weeks but would like some input before I do.

What's the verdict on the 34 with the adj trigger? Anything else I should look at?

The 34 is your safest bet, but if you just want a springer for pest control, then I would take a look at the Crosman Optimus in 22.

With 14 gr RWS Super-H-Points, the Optimus is known for one hole accuracy at 20 yards with artillery hold. It's easy to load, it's relatively light and compact, and it balances nicely near the trigger guard for off hand shooting. You can expect about 750 fps with 14 gr pellets. Gun goes for about $100.

The downside is that the trigger has no wall. It breaks clean, but it's hard to know when it will break. There are trigger jobs, including a simple fix with a 3mmx10mm screw. But even without a trigger job, the gun is serviceable once you get familiar with the trigger.

Sounds like a good low cost alternative, I'll check it out. I'm looking for a rifle with a good adjustable trigger. My 36 didn't have one and it drove me nuts. I never took the time to adjust it because I didn't want to take it apart. I don't mind the cost as I was looking at spending 4-500 bucks for a rifle and scope anyway. My RWS was a good rifle except for that trigger. I'm sure they've made some improvements in 25 years.:D

I have an RWS 34 with T06 trigger, with RWS scope mount/factory “irons” too with original box.

Not sure what you are wanting to do with a pellet gun but it will shoot a 4.125” group at 100 yards with regular Benjamin .22 pellets and has enough “omph” to kill a crow at that distance.

I think that was the last time I shot it.

Springers are not for everyone but if you like them, I might have one for you.

I need to shoot some crows and grey squirrels. My 36 worked just fine for that. I have a 34 on order after I talked to a dealer locally. Thanks.

The only thing I would say is the scopes that come with those "bundles" are usually not the best....or I guess I should say not worth the material they are made from....

The 34 is a great rifle that will give you years of good service.

I would love to hear your review of the 34. I keep telling myself that I need to get a quality springer one day.

My 34 will put 5 into 4 inches at 100 yards. Won’t out do my PCP rifles but I have killed crow out to 98 yards with it.
