This is in this month's "Texas Fish and Game". Now, I know that land owners don't care, but Javelina are native species. I have great respect for the animal and it's quite the legendary animal in south and west Texas. Numbers are declining, not good. The article points out that, while not hogs, the Javelina eats the same things hogs do in addition to their staple, prickly pear, I suppose. The javelina is a GAME animal, after all. It seems to get no respect, but it belongs here. The feral pig isn't native, the Javelina is.

Agreed ^^^^^^^^^^^^

Love Javelina's.....hate pigs!

But, the question is, are you willing to sacrifice the Javelina and God only knows WHAT else to kill off pigs? Not me.

No, I am staunchly against the use of Warfarin. Sodium Nitrite might work OK.....IF they can come up with a better delivery system.

Poison (of any type) will never be used on my property. I shoot, trap and snare them with pretty good success but am under no illusion that I will ever be able to kill them faster than they can repopulate.

IMO....a decent 'bounty' on pigs would have a real effect.

But lets face it, they are here to stay. Landowners, ranchers, farmers and certain other folks loathe them (as I do), but others WANT to have hogs around. I would wager by now...they are the second most hunted large animal in Texas (with only Deer being more popular). So an entire industry exists because of them. Many folks enjoy having something to pursue year 'round.

To me they are a scourge, but other folks would not want to see them disappear (not that that is possible).

But back to your question: NO I don't want to see any 'collateral damage' in the form of non-target animals result from the use of any poison. I expect we will see another effort to introduce Warfarin...in the near future, but if/when it comes...I hope it is only AFTER significant testing in TEXAS has been conducted with suitable results.
