There are so many people even on this forum who support ubc. It frustrates me to no end. The media have most people so brainwashed it is pathetic.

Some people cant see the forest for all the trees.

It is our job to show that UBC-> registration -> confiscation

Fight it off now, or cry in 10 years when they are feeding your guns into a shredder.

    Thanks Canadians.

But...you do realize, we're Americans, right? That we won't be registering or handing anything in, right?

There will be none of that on our watch.

But thanks for your concern, anyway.

    ^^^^Now that's funny!!

I do however, believe that when the order is given most people are going to do whatever Big Brother asks them to do. Look at the country 50 years ago and look at it today. American's don't have the backbone we think we have. We may not like what happens but nevertheless we collectively comply.

There seems to be a lot of confusion about the difference between the current system of background checks and a "Universal Background Check" system.

I'm not so sure. Part of me thinks we will comply but part of me thinks we won't.

Something that assures me is our tenacity and ingenuity. Regardless of what happens we'll find a way to get through it.

But would UBC's automatically lead to registration? The existing system hasn't. That's the whole problem with the claims of a slippery slope.

And even if they have 100 million names--are they going to go arrest 100 million people? Are they going to arrest Texas or Alaska? And I don't see any huge advantage to living under a confiscation scheme without registration. I'm not interested in sneaking around and hiding things like a drug runner. In fact the idea that ALL OF US will be on their lists has some appeal. Nobody can hide. We hang together or we all hang separately.

Remember the Revolution. The first thing the leaders did was sign their names to a piece of paper and send it directly to King George.

Registration has always lead to confiscation, directly or indirectly, and you will (be made to) comply.

Do you think they need to arrest you to put pressure on you to turn in your guns once they have you 'registered'?

Heck, it could be as simply as giving a $10,000 tax break to anyone that 'turns in' their guns, vs a $10,000 tax penalty if you do not.

How many years are you gonna hold out on that?

Someone really really rich? Meh, they will pay the 'tax'. The regular joe blows would line up to turn them in.

That is just one example of how they could confiscate your guns without arresting 100 million people.

The hard truth is all of you who talk like that, and say things like " from my cold
Dead hands" and such stuff, will be the first in line to turn your guns in. Talk on
Here is cheap. I'm 70 and have seen it before. Wish I was wrong, but I'm not.

No. There will not be an Australian/UK style confiscation in America. Can't happen.

Although I also oppose any UBC, I don't believe mass confiscation can happen. It would not be legal or practical. Just about impossible.

    1) The Constitution protects the right to arms
    2) The SCOTUS has ruled in our favor repeatedly on individual rights
    3) Most Americans support the right to arms, and are not radical enough for confiscation
    4) It would be physically impossible to "disarm" 100 million Americans of 300 million guns
    5) We wouldn't allow it. (the brits and aussies went willingly, we won't).

Incremental prohibition is possible, but the government comming to take away everyones guns is absurdist fantasy.

Certainly. Esp. if you and everyone else in the state says "NO." I don't see a substantive difference between a law banning all firearms with or without registration in place. I guess we can HIDE easier without registration. I'm not big on the HIDING idea. I want them to know I'm armed. I write Senators telling them I have firearms.

The resistance to some kind of confiscation law at the federal level is not going to come from individuals just deciding themselves not to comply. It will come from STATES passing LAWS ordering all LEO's to refuse compliance, shutting down all contact with federal enforcement, and even barring any efforts to enforce those laws. It will, and should, be done with color of law in the open with everyone to see. Not a shot in the dark but an actual statute passed and signed. So it's not a matter of burning out some holdouts in a farm, but going to war with Texas, Alaska, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, starting to sound familiar? Well it should. That's how it's done. We lay it on the line, in the open, and make it clear IF YOU WANT OUR FIREARMS you must come and take them. That means destroying the union itself, laying waste to half the continent and plunging the economy into ruin. Civil war. That's what it is, and that's the last redoubt. Not dudes shooting cops over gun safes. The Second mentions FREE STATES for a reason. We forget that at our peril. We are a people who honor rule of law. And the final objection to an intolerable federal law is not some individual act of lawlessness, but to OUTLAW that LAW.
