Wasp Spray Does NOT Work For Self Defense.

Although it's not guaranteed, pepper spray works at least as well as anything that the law considers to be less than lethal. Attacks that justify defense but not with lethal force are much more common than ones that do justify lethal force. It's effectiveness doesn't depend on the size and strength of the defender.

Brake cleaner will work. Shoots pretty far too.

Most likely will leave permanent damage.

Dunno how much this will help you but if your ever I. An active shooter situation in Walmart, go to the automotive section and arm up.

Works better when you light it on fire.

''Watch the video. The guy takes the spray right in the face and specifically right in the eyes with zero effect.''

Well, not really with zero effect. It simply upped his stupid level, putting ANY chemicals into the eye area that could POTENTIALLY damage the most precious of the senses, sight.

Maybe I'm the only one. I've never heard of or seen anyone carry wasp spray for self defense, except of course for wasps.

How about without any effect that would have stopped him from beating your ass

You should do a word search just on this forum and see how many people have suggested wasp spray for self-defense.

Just did one for my own amusement.

There are a lot of folks who say to use wasp spray as a less than lethal or firearm alternative. Based on the video shown, I would call it bad advice.

There are also quite a few who say not to or at the very least question it over something more proven like pepper spray.

Now, brake cleaner does make for an excellent wasp spray

If wasp spray doesn't work as well as brake cleaner on wasps...I can't imagine it does much to all but the most skiddish of attackers.

Though I suppose it depends on who you're going up against:D

Like pretty much any other self-defense implement, wasp spray will work against anyone who doesn't want to get sprayed with it or, if already sprayed, doesn't want to get sprayed again. It's just like pointing (and firing a gun, if done) at someone. If they don't want to get shot (or shot again), they break off.

That's pretty much all you can count on, the attackers that recognize the threat you pose against them and desire not to face it. I don't know what reputation wasp spray has in bad-guy world.

Well, you don't really know, do you? It does not physiologically cause any sort of stop is all that was shown in video. Whether is would cause a psychological stop is unknown. I would not want to bet on it, but psychological stops are a whole different sort of animal than physiological stops. Most handgun stops are psychological and not physiological. Lots of people have been beaten or otherwise harmed by attackers they have shot. Sometimes, it takes repeated applications of handgun shooting to make stops physiological.

Wasp spray isn't a good choice. It never has been. It isn't even a good alternative to pepper spray.

Wasp spray is primarily mineral spirits. So if would act as an eye irritant
Bear spray/pepper spray would be much more effective.

For a person that has so many years in pesticides, this guy is and idiot. There can be damage to his eyes. Primary absorption in the body is through inhalation, mouth and EYES. The amount of actual insecticide is minimal and is no more that say a flea shampoo or lice shampoo. Plus having his son spray him is also pretty stupid.
All to make a video and prove what point??

WHOA!

Prior to reading this post:

Maybe I'm the only one. I've never heard of or seen anyone carry wasp spray for self defense, except of course for wasps.

I posted this one:

Huh. First time I have ever heard of wasp spray being touted as a self defense weapon ... except, o'course, against wasps. :)

:what:

How would a guy carry can of wasp spray? OWB, IWB, cross draw, shoulder rig?
Shoulder rig!

Just get the good stuff, Freez +P. I personally recommend it. I have been sprayed with it and I have sprayed a few bad guys with it. The bad guys I sprayed with it cried like babies.

But if you ever spray a naked 200 plus pound guy, high on cocain, and he licks his lips and ask, “Do you have anything that taste better “ you’re going to have a fight on your hands.

Plus, it is against federal law/regulations to use insecticides and pesticides for any purposes than those specified on the container. Could carrying wasp spray to use in self defense situations be intent to commit a federal violation? And could recommending the use of wasp spray be considered part of a conspiracy?
