I know this will probably be closed in short order, but for those who knew him because of me:

    http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070829/ENTERTAINMENT01/70829056

Dad has finally gone home. The only thing incorrect is that it wasn't a "long illness." He fell Friday, and fought like hell till they moved him to a nursing home Tuesday; Wednesday morning, he just shut everything off.

For you that remember, thank you for helping me keep a wonderful memory with him. I love you, Dad; you were, and always will be, the best...

My condolences, Mike. Been 36 years since my Dad passed & I miss him dearly. I came to the realization at the time that more than missing him, I was thankful for having ever known him. May God bless you & yours and may your Father rest in peace. . .

Why would this be considered off topic?

My condolences to you and your family. I pray that you will be surrounded by the comfort of the Almighty during this difficult time. When you get past the initial shock, please do share with us some of his influence on your life.

    My Condolences

Please accept my condolences, Michael. I did not have the privilege of knowing him but I know what you are going through. It has been over 20 years since I lost my Dad and I still miss him! The circumstances of my Dad's death were much more sorted so be thankful that you were close by and able to share time with him.

Once you feel like you can it would be wise to take the time to write down your memories - so much is lost from generation to generation and one day your grandchildren would like to know what you now know.

    Take care and stay safe.

I am so sorry for your loss....my heart and prayers are with you.....I lost my Daughter almost 2 years ago, and I posted on this forum..someone replied with the following......It helped me a lot..and still does>>>

    An Irish Funeral Prayer

    Death is nothing at all.
    It does not count.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
    Everything remains as it was.
The old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged.
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
Call me by the old familiar name.
Speak of me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no sorrow in your tone.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effort
Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was.
    There is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner.
All is well. Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost.
One brief moment and all will be as it was before.
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting, when we meet again.

Source: derived from a sermon written by Henry Scott Holland and delivered in St. Paul's (London) on 15 May 1910, at which time the body of King Edward VII was lying in state at Westminster. Although not originally derived from Irish writings, versions of this sermon have been used at many Irish and Catholic funerals over the years

Very sorry to hear of your loss. I can't imagine what it would be like to lose your father. It really hit home to me when i saw the picture of your father. With the exception that your fathers hair is white in that picture and my fathers is turning grey but mostly still dark, your father looks so much like mine, mustache, haircut, facial features... even holding a 1911 like my father has. I will be praying for you and your family. God bless.

I'm very sorry for your loss.
My wife lost her mother recently, and my little sister lost her husband last fall. The pain lessens with time, but we can all remember that sharp sense of grief and loss.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
