Weapon light for SR9C

I just picked up my Ruger SR9c yesterday! It is my first semi-auto handgun so I'm a bit wet behind the ears when it comes to a weapon in this category. However, I am a discerning buyer and I'm very impressed with the overall build quality and balance. I purchased the two-tone model with the raw stainless slide and black polymer frame. Personally I like the contrast of black and silver and find it pleasing to the eye.

The trigger reach is a bit short for my hands (I can palm a basketball) but I expected that coming into the compact market. The grip extension is a nice feature so you can give your pinky finger something to grip onto. I also really like the external slide safety as it is placed in an intuitive and ergonomic position--with the quick flip of my thumb it can be disengaged. There is no magazine safety on this gun which I didn't think of being much use in the first place.

I'm not so sure about the trigger yet, it feels very...different than the revolvers I'm used to. Its almost like a two stage...a little pull back with light variable resistance, then a firm engagement and finally a release. The trigger safety seems awkward to me too, but I guess these are on most polymers nowadays. I'm not making any judgments until I actually go shoot the gun. Maybe its just because I'm so used to revolvers?

Anyways I am very much looking forward to learning more about semi-autos and shooting the SR9c. I would like to mount a light on the gun for HD. I have a TLR-1 but it is too long to properly fit the SR9c as the mounting tabs hang about 1/2 inch off of the polymer mount. Has anyone tried mounting a light to the SR9c yet?

The TLR-3 is made for compacts, so that may fit. I don't have that particular gun so I can't say for sure.

Great little pistol I havent found a light that fits mine yet but I havent looked hard either. You may want to pop that slide off and spray a little CLP or Trilube, something that cleans, lubes and dries on the trigger area and the striker and work them back and forth. Mine was a little sticky when I bought it with whatever Ruger puts in there as a protectant. I wouldnt use an oil that stays wet than see how the trigger feels I think you'll like it.

If a magazine safety here means that the gun won't fire unless there's a magazine in it, I'm sure the SR9c has one because I've reviewed the tutorial on how to remove it. After I get mine, removing that safety will be an urgent priority.

Well I can pull the trigger after ejecting the magazine. It goes click so I imagine that would be the firing pin.

Sticky would describe the trigger. I'm hoping that after a few hundred rounds it will break in. If it doesn't I'll try some lube.

niner dont do that anymore than you have to, the trigger will gradually get worse there are instructions in the ruger forums on removing the mag safety if you think you need to other wise I just put a snapcap in a magazine chamber it pull the trigger remove the mag n put the pistol away. That trigger gets better fast if you clean it and the springs and linkage like I suggested. but dont keep dry firing it without a magazine unless you disconnect the mag safety

Update:

I shot this gun for the first time recently. Talk about a pleasure to shoot!! I love this gun. The trigger is very nice. I'm really used to revolver so this semi-auto was a blast.

You guys were right about the mag safety. With a round chambered and the mag ejected I couldn't fire the round.

I see that one company has come out with a laser sight. Has anyone heard about a compact light for this gun?

A while back a guy next to me at the range was trying out his new SR9c for the first time. When I wasn't shooting, I would look over at his targets and noticed that he was having trouble getting a decent grouping. During a break, I asked him about his Ruger and he asked me to try it out; he thought the trigger was too stiff and uneven. So I shot two 5 round mags and put them all in a nice tight group, with the gun pretty much shooting POA. The trigger did feel a little disconnected but about on par as my Glock 17.

I was really impressed with the way the Ruger felt in my hand, with a well thought out design, great ergos, and quality construction through out. So a couple of months later I bought one. I changed out to the flat mag floorplate (felt better), as well as switching the backstrap to the flat surface configuration. The sights come up on target very quickly and this one also shoots to POA. Overall I'm very pleased with my choice for a compact 9mm.

There IS a magazine safety. The gun will still go click when you pull the trigger, but it is very likely to damage the weapon by doing so.

Look up on youtube how to take out the magazine safety. It is rather easy and takes only a minute or two. It will also teach you how to remove the striker for a proper cleaning.

As far as a weapon light...I have no idea.

edit: Sorry just read that this issue had been addressed. Once you take out the mag safety it is "safe" to dry fire.

If you want to dry fire the SR9c either insert an empty magazine or remove the magazine disconnect. You can actually damage the gun dry firing without a magazine in place.
