this past weekend there was a large gun auction I previewed and attended, it was a single mans collection that his family was selling since he had passed away. there was over 400 rifles and handguns, most of the items being militarily surplus. I think I got to see, in person every manufacturer of the enfield no1 and no4 there are ,same for the m1 carbine. lots of garands, arisakas and mausers.

Im not sure how well I did price wise (I think i did good tho) but I came out with two rifles, a 1903 R.I.C. constabulary carbine that I have been looking for about 2 years and a Winchester m1917

the RIC LEC Enfield is all matching and and isn't missing a thing, in fact it even has the original oilier still in the stock. it does tho have 1 small crack in the handguard about 1 inch long- paid 820$

the Winchester 1917 has every part marked W but there is only one serial number I can see and that's on the receiver 307,xxx (i don't know much about this rifle) the barrel is also marked W 5-18. gun doesn't look to me like its been arsenaled/parkerized. lastly the sling from the little iv read is an original nobuckl- paid 500$

this was my first auction of any kind, i cant wait to attend some in the future, there where some expensive rifles there aswell, saw a sharps carbine go for 3,400$ and a prefect condidtion like new johnson 1941 go for 3,800

thanks musicman

I was surprised on the final price of alot of the guns, many no1mkIII and no4 MKI's went for as little as 175-250$, many inland m1 carbines for 450$, m1 garands for 500-550$, arisakas for 175 for non mum and 225-250 with mum(one with matching numbers but no mum went for only 300). too me these prices are amazing. Im so used to gun show prices in which you would add atleast 100 -250$ on top. the funny thing is there were a few sks's and they all went for 325-400! IMO thats pretty stiff compared to the rest of the stuff.

alot of people were able to wave the 7% sales tax so i think most of the crowd where dealers.
i hope this is the norm for gun auctions and not the exception. if so ill never go to another gunshow again.

edit: i looked at the pic of the R.I.C. carbine that i posted , the photo makes it look reblued. its not as jet black in real life.
