this past weekend there was a large gun auction I previewed and attended, it was a single mans collection that his family was selling since he had passed away. there was over 400 rifles and handguns, most of the items being militarily surplus. I think I got to see, in person every manufacturer of the enfield no1 and no4 there are ,same for the m1 carbine. lots of garands, arisakas and mausers.
Im not sure how well I did price wise (I think i did good tho) but I came out with two rifles, a 1903 R.I.C. constabulary carbine that I have been looking for about 2 years and a Winchester m1917
the RIC LEC Enfield is all matching and and isn't missing a thing, in fact it even has the original oilier still in the stock. it does tho have 1 small crack in the handguard about 1 inch long- paid 820$
the Winchester 1917 has every part marked W but there is only one serial number I can see and that's on the receiver 307,xxx (i don't know much about this rifle) the barrel is also marked W 5-18. gun doesn't look to me like its been arsenaled/parkerized. lastly the sling from the little iv read is an original nobuckl- paid 500$
this was my first auction of any kind, i cant wait to attend some in the future, there where some expensive rifles there aswell, saw a sharps carbine go for 3,400$ and a prefect condidtion like new johnson 1941 go for 3,800
