Well, answered that ammo question on my M1A

I was researching headspaces and ammo requirements for my new (to me) SOCOM 16, and the tag says it is headspaced at 1.631. So, I guess I'll be using commercial ammo. Works for me; Eagle red box, and WWB are reasonably priced (no, not milsurp $, but resonable enough), and I don't plan on using too much match grade. Milsurp would have been nice, but quality stuff seems to be in very sort supply anyway.

Anybody know what Wolf measures at? It is dirty in my experience, but if it functions well, it might be good for the reserves.

Any comments from those with experience using commercial-grade in your Springfield?

You'd be fine to shoot surplus as well.

My M-1A came headspaced at 1.632, and I have shot over 9K rounds of 7.62 NATO surplus from at least 7 countrys without one problem to feed, fire, extract or eject.

That is the good news, the bad news is that headspace now reads 1.637 which is too much headspace growth (if you ask me).

It still has a long way to go to close on a 7.62 field guage, but only 1/1000 away from .308 field reject.

Can anybody cite an instance in which a little excess chamber headspace mattered in a gun in otherwise sound condition shooting factory or arsenal ammunition? I have never seen or reliably heard of any adverse affect except in reloading brass shot in a long chamber.

Mine eats surplus just fine. It's had far more Argentinian ammo than US commercial through it.

It may not be technically correct but it isn't a "problem".
