Well, I got fired finally

Good luck! I hope your attorney can "clean them out" or get a good settlement to spook them all.

Just a couple of comments. I read the entire original post. Two things stuck out in my mind.

First off, the officer chewing him out. I am not a child and the officer is not my parent. No officer has ever chewed me out and I would not tolerate it if they did so. I certainly would not argue with them right then, I am not stupid, however my next action after the officer left would be to call his supervisor. If I violate a law, I expect to be ticketed or arrested as appropriate but I will not be chewed out as if I am a child. If possible I will have that officer fired.

I am not "cop-bashing" here. I will not tolerate that behavior from any other adult, period. My boss, my real boss (my wife), no one. My boss can take appropriate disciplinary action, write me up, fire me, whatever but he does not have the right to chew me out. My wife can get mad and yell at me but not as if I were a child (fine line there).

Secondly, if someone is following me, that is a threat to my safety as far as I am concerned. Driving aggressively, non aggresive, I don't care. As far as I am concerned when they start following me then they are acting aggressively. If I am able to positively identify them as police then I will stop and ask them just exactly what they think they are doing. If I cannot then I will do what I consider necessary to stop this aggressive behavior. We do have anti-stalking laws for this very reason. I do not know what their intentions are.

As far as Devonai's story being true or not, innocent until proven guilty. I assume his story is true. That said, I also try to never second guess the commander on site. Sound familiar? Some of the suggestions were sensible as to what he had done some were patently silly. Would I stop at a red light with someone obviously following me? No way on God's green earth. In the same situation I can easily see myself making dumb moves.

As far as knowing the mindset of the officer or what police policies are, I don't know and I really don't care. The policies were put into place because of violations by police officers and to protect citizens and the officers themselves. Officers are trained to handle dangerous situations, citizens are not. Officers are trained in the law, citizens are not. To protect and serve the public is their job and duty. This officer messed up. He knew he was in a POV without lights or siren, common sense says he should have called for backup in a police cruiser. That's exactly why they are clearly marked and have lights and sirens. That's also why we now have a law here in GA that says you don't have to stop for an unmarked police car.

Hope everything goes your way.

Please post the results of the hearing, on this thread, so I will get an email notification.

Police Policies

... or regulations, or guidelines, or etc etc.... How do we ordinary peons (private citizens who pay the cops' salaries) know what these secret regs. are?
Example: My town recently established a review board to handle complaints about police misconduct (after a cop shot a guy in the back and killed him while he was running away). The board's only allowed to discuss whether or not the cop violated police regulations; that is, the secret law the rest of us are not allowed to know about.

Actually...

in many states, police policy and procedure is public information- with the possible exception of certain information that might compromise public safety if it were widely known. A good example would be response procedure for bank alarms, etc.

tetleyb, I don't think it was me that made the statement about the public's lack of knowledge of procedure. The public can usually get the majority of that information without much difficulty. Open records laws will often get you information that local authorities are sometimes reluctant to release. It IS, after all, your tax dollars that they are spending, so you are entitled to know how it's being spent.

You folks who are curious about these things should check with your city hall, county commission, or state department of public safety. Actually I wish more people were interested enough in these things to inquire about them; it might go a long way toward bridging what is obviously a canyon between "us" and "them".

take care all-

On the subject of the 1st Amendment to the US Constitution.....For future reference for those who like to fling that phrase around anytime they think someone may not want to hear what they have to say. It only applies to and limits the activitioes of the US Congress. "Congess shall make no law..." You have the right to speak. You do not have the right to be heard.

Thanks, Sarge

I know the regs here (most of them as you said) are public documents. They're not advertised, though. Maybe it's up to Moi? as Miss Piggy said, to go beard the popo in its den for the info.

For the record, my middle finger is available if you need to borrow a 3rd and a 4th one..

I say, good riddence to bad employment..

I got fired because I didn't want to do something illegal that would have landed me in a new 8x8 cell with a roommate named Bubba who got lonely at nights..

Any more wanna-be mods want to beat me over the head about my ill-thought-out 1st ammendment post.......well now's your chance......just jump in here and do it.
I apologized for that in a later post.......but it seems some people just can't let it go.

.......well now's your chance......just jump in here and do it.

Nope,, I Want to go shooting today though.
DorGunR, for what it's worth, you get a nod for publicly retracting (...my bad...) which is at times hard to do in front of the mob.

RTFM

Sarge,

My sincere apologies to you then, I must have gotten you mixed up with someone else.

The policies and procedures to my department are open for any public review. There are no "secrets." And they are probably not much different then any other police departments policies. Most departments just copy another department's policies and add or take away what suits their department.

However, understand, it goes deeper then that. Policies, regulations, etc are only guidelines to what is done everyday. You can't have a "rule book" about every possible scenario.

Its easy to sit back and monday morning quarterback what a person did, under extreme stress, not knowing all the facts. And yes, that goes for cops as well as non-cops.

one of the jobs i lost,,,

was over a safety issue, namely the requirement of outriggers on a scissors lift to lower very heavy objects down from about 35 ft.

i told the owners VP kid to get up there and do it himself,,, :D

iv'e always found the next job to be a step up,

and, like someone else around here said, the best way to get even is to live well

good luck

;)

DorGunR, shall we start a new thread just to beat you up about the First Amendment and how it applies to private discussions?

:D
