secrets all secrets I say but if you want one of the best I have so far...

once fired brass not resized no crimp 530 gr lead flat nose (.512 dia) spg lubed bullet(buffalo arms) 89 gr goex ffg droped through a 36 in copper drop tube no compression a .015 fiber over powder card a .060 disc of spg than another .015 card seat the bullet to the top band its a lighter recoil load pushes the bullet at 1250 fps and makes a big 2in outer edge to outer edge group at 100 yards in my gun, a sharps with a 32in barrel.

sometimes with this load it will send the grease smokeing down range, tells me its too much lube but its accurate so I kept this one, I have not tried smokeless yet but I just got in some 550 gr solid bullets(.510 dia)

    Hey Eric.
What part of SE Virginia are you at?

I'm near Fredericksburg area & used to live just SE of Petersburg.

BTW that does sound like a pretty decent load for the 50-90, one day I'll conn my Uncle in letting me have my Great Grand dad's 1886 Winchester 50-110-300 rifle for a few weeks.

I hate to say it, but if that was built on a shotgun receiver it may not be safe or at least may not last long. The shotgun and Handi Rifle receivers look identical but the rifles are made of stronger steel to hold up to the higher pressure. You can put a shotgun barrel on a rifle receiver but not vice versa.

I have never heard this before, Nont the less The 50-90 really does not recoil any more than a 12-10 ga shot gun depending on the 12 ga load. Well thats with bp if you were using smokeless that might be diffrent, I think you would be ok with it.
