when i get home, (otr driver) my significant female other, who was an anti when i started dating her, wants me to help her find a good used .22 to go shooting with me, and a 20 ga. for defense at home...

i have a 10-22 Ruger i'll give her for a .22.. as for the .20 Ga., we'll just have to go shopping...

now to put a ring on her finger...

Congrats!

Regarding the 20ga, I suppose you'll want a pump for defense. But for upland game, CZ makes an over/under with TWIN triggers. I think that's practically perfect for upland game.

she does NOT allow her pic to be taken... i have exactly one pic of her anywhere... and it is not digital, and i have no scanner... sorry...

as for the 20 Ga... i have 3 or 4 fine 20 Ga double guns... a Fox, a stackbarrel Ruger, an L.C. Smith... she wants a pump, so an 870 will likely be the ticket...

she's rather short, so a youth model might do her well...

I have a deep affection for the Remington 870. Best damn shotgun ever made IMHO so that is the way I would go. As for the .22, check out the Feather AT22 (www.featherusa.com). I bought one before the ban and absolutely love it. It is an extremly fun .22 to plink around with.

My wife (thanks to her mom, who was an ER nurse) was pretty much anti-gun. Far worse than the "you'll shoot your eye out," more along the lines of "fine, go do it. I just don't want to have to identify you at the morgue." About a year ago, she finally decided to try shooting. 10 rounds out of a 10/22, then my friend let her shoot his ruger mkI. She went from being morbidly afraid of firearms to dirty harry within 2 clips. Got back from vacation, and all i heard was "when can we go shooting again??!!??" She just bought (with her own money) her 3rd handgun a few weeks ago. It is getting crazy. She wants to go look at guns this afternoon, but i'm tired. And she has already surpassed the abilities of a few of my shooting buddies (who aren't really that bad in the grand scheme of things). I keep telling myself girls have a lower center of gravity and are able to concentrate on multiple things at the same time. Imagine if you could pay attention to all 6 fundementals of shooting at the exact same time. Thinking about trigger control means i can't pay attention to calling my shot. I think i need to hit the range more.

And another local friend keeps trying to get her to go shoot 5 stand. And thankfully she is still intimidated by my ar15, so i won't have to worry about her wanting to get into high power rifle. Letting her shoot that 10/22 was the biggest / most expensive mistake i ever made. I even had to buy reloading equipment so i wouldn't break the bank with all the rounds we were expending. I spend 4-5 hours a week hunched over a single stage breaking my back so she can go shoot; might have to get a dillon progressive sometime.

But the cool thing is that she has gotten two of her friends to actually go shooting (and while they enjoyed it, they haven't become hooked yet). And there are a few more that are interested in trying it. She still hasn't told her mom she shoots, much less that she owns multiple firearms. When that day comes, it will have been worth every penny we have sunk into the activity. Now i just need to find a new hobby to get away from the wife with. She likes golfing, so that is out. And now she is a baseball fan too, so she wants to go over and watch the game at my friends' houses or one of those sports bar places. She's even warmed up to my GTO, a money pit i owned before i even met her.

But marry the (gal) today
Handle it meek and gently
Marry the (gal) today and train (her) subsequently

I am glad to share my hobbies with the GF... she loves the 'Cuda, likes to ride on the bike, and now shoots with me... she'll even help detiail the 'Cuda... and i still get to wernch on things without her there... she doesn'd do mechanical work... so i still have one hobby that is all mine... also, she shoots, but doesn't hunt... so i guess that's 2 hobbies...

in trade, i ballroom dance with her (don't tell her, but I LIKE the ballroom dancing)
