I cut the beautiful checkering off of my SKB SxS butt and installed a recoil pad. SKB 002.JPG Bought a Pachmayer Decelerator Presentation 1" recoil pad. I took off 1/2" and made it a bit longer as I am 6'2" and a little longer on the stock works for me. Ground it to fit and didn't have any woops. Also drilled and tapped the center rib and added a brass mid bead. I will say 3/56 tap is getting smaller as my eyes are getting older. Going to take it to the club tomorrow and see if I can do better than a 23 that I have shot 5 times in a row. I test fired 4 rounds and the recoil pad tamed the felt recoil quite well. All in all I am pleased with my effort. SKB 002.JPG Recoil pad 001.JPG Recoil pad 002.JPG Recoil pad 004.JPG Recoil pad 005.JPG Recoil pad 003.JPG

Would make a fine desk ornament.

It might if I wasn't such a cluttered person, my desk and benches have way too much junk setting on them as it is.

I made two cuts to make sure that I didn't have any splintering, so I had one maybe 1/4" initial cut, and another final cut about 3/16". I also had the wood well wrapped in masking tape to help prevent any splintering. I had to pull the fitted plug out that was screwed in for access to the butt stock bolt before doing anything. Having the stock laying there on the 12" compound miter saw kind of had me second guessing if I wanted to cut or not. Did the grinding on my friends commercial Baldor polishing jack that has I believe 120" sanding belts.

Had to talk myself into doing it, spend $2300 on a shotgun that I don't enjoy shooting, or make it into something that is enjoyable. Just loaded a couple hundred 20 gauge shells tonight and it's off to the shotgun club tomorrow to shoot skeet with a couple buddies. Hopefully a 25 straight or two in the works.

Well you did a darn good job.

I'd have been sweating bullets or not had the eggs at all to do that, I'm not so handy at the gunsmithings!! :D

i too like double barrel shotgun and also like a long pull, but use slip on pads to get it. i just don,t have the balls to attempt cut the butt stocks on my two brownings(12-20ga) and fox sterlingworth(16ga) and remington(12ga). thats a fantactic looking shotgun. eastbank.

I've been doing woodworking for over 20 years, but I still find it's extremely easy to make a whoops. A couple years a go I made a whoops when I broke a tap off putting on a bead. Had to break the tap with a spring loaded punch. Ended up bending the vent rib on the shotgun when I did it. Luckily it was my own gun and an old Remington that I will never part with anyway. I eventually got everything straightened out but it left a scar on the vent rib and didn't get a mid bead.

Very nice work and better to have a beautiful shotgun that work's for you rather than have it languishing in the gun safe because it just doesn't fit you right. You done good!

Well the new recoil pad helps quite a bit. Started out with a 25, then two 24's. Switched to my old boat anchor of a M1897 Winchester with the ugly poly-choke on the end and shot a 23 and 25 just a shuckin' and a jivin'. It's always fun to run my pump guns on the skeet range when all the really serious shooters are out, especially when they don't know me.

Beautiful day here, 68 degrees and sunny, with quite a bit of wind and gusts, made targets jump 3-4 feet and drop the same. I can only blame one miss on the wind, then again that's why I missed all of them, yeah that's the ticket. :p

Oh man I love me some side by sides. Great job on the recoil pad, and good job cutting the stock level... not an easy task.

hey also if you like you can take a empty Clorox bleach bottle and cut out a pattern from the recoil pad so you can have a vintage type white liner in between the stock and recoil pad

Kame B that is a good tip on the white liner, If I ever come across something that would need the spacer I will keep that in mind.
