I was in the area of my office today and I noticed that the ten day waiting period Ca mandates (It's for the children!) to buy a gun was up at 1:45 this afternoon. I had plunked some money down on an older Colt Officer's Model .38 Spl., so since the wait was over I figured I'd pop in, pay it off and pick it up. I drove to the store and I saw that not only was it boarded up like a hurricane was expected to blow into town (Hurricane Looting :cuss:) there was a line outside with folks spaced 6 feet apart. Having seen this before I figured it would be the usual 20-30 minute wait outside rather than the deli-number style wait at the counter inside. (Now serving number 51!)

I started to walk past to the employee at the door so I could take my place in line. He held his hand up and asked if I had an appointment. Taken aback, I said my waiting period was up and I was here to pay and pick up. The employee had a clipboard with time slots on it and he said that there were no appointments available today! He said his first appointment was at 10 am... on Tuesday the 9th. :what:

Man, folks are buying guns like crazy out here!

Stay safe.

It's stupid time for sure -- even gotta wait in line for 20 to 30 minutes to get to the gun counter to even look at a gun at my local Sportsman's Warehouse.

It's absolutely ridiculous that we have to make appointments or wait in line for hours after the end of a state-mandated waiting period to pick up firearms we've already paid for.

Sounds like a good news/bad news situation; good news in that a lot of first time buyers are seeing firsthand how a 10 day waiting period is an effective means for the anti-gun crowd to restrict your Second Amendment rights and maybe (hopefully), they'll "see the light" and start to vote differently come election time.

Bad news is now you have to wait even longer to get your guns.

You should have seen the envious glares of the folks scrabbling to buy Taurus G2s and Heritage Rough Riders when the guy brought out my new P7 Friday so I could shoot it- they have a small, attached range at that shop.

One guy leaned over and asked if it was for sale. I replied that I had only just purchased it and he offered (in a hushed voice) to buy it from me when I picked it up Wednesday.

Then I told him what they go for.

He went back to trying to get them to order him a G2. :D

Don't knock the G2. They are great little pistols. I bought one since I was curious and it's now my "throw in a tackle box or in the UTV" gun as a back-up. Feels great in the hand, reliable as heck, and holds 12rds in a compact size. At $200 or less, it's a bargain. I won't knock anyone who carries one for their primary carry pistol. They're likely much better off with it than with any other pistol you can buy new for $200.

I thought I'd read in one of your posts that you were in LE. Does CA actually require a waiting period for LEO's?

There is a waiting period exemption for duty-related firearm purchases. Since this isn't one of those, I did not ask my Chief for an exemption letter (The majority of my gun purchases are for fun rather than work so I'm usually waiting for DOJ to tell me I'm ok ;)).

Stay safe.

In your shoes I would be very tempted to "abuse the privilege" and ask for an exemption.
Hell, I'm irritated if I have to wait ten minutes for a gun purchase. I'd probably have a stroke if I was forced to wait 10 days.

It’s frustrating, and to be honest hasn’t stopped one instance of crime or suicide (nor will it ever) It’s just another of the “death by a thousand cuts” that antis use to slowly erode away gun ownership and the 2nd. I’m not one to jump a line though, so I’ll wait my turn to pick up the Colt with all the others who are waiting to pick up their guns :).

Stay safe.

I like that idea! Sort of a scoot n’ shoot approach to gun sales .
Stay safe.

I'm impressed that you were able to find a Colt Officer's Model for sale in CA!

I went in to buy some rimfire ammo. I spied the Colt in the case as I walked by, asked to check it out and was hooked by the amazing trigger pull and still-tight lockup.

I’m really looking forward to shooting this revolver... if I can ever get it out of limbo!
Stay safe.

About as strange as the situation I ran into when I retired. I was a LEO for NYS, when I retired, they took 6 months to grant me a NYS carry permit, even though I had a "good guy" letter from my agency.

NYC, which is notorious for holding things up, issued me one while I waited, same day I applied. Hard to figure these things out.
