In some way, we're all LEO's. We all have the responsibility to help uphold the law, to help those around us, and to be there for the general good of society. We just might not draw as often (hopefully) as the local PD does.

Oh HELL no! I am not a cop I am not a sheep dog. I am not the guardian of the people.

All such an attitude does is aggrandize the CHP holder in their own eyes.

I carry a weapon for self ( key word there) defense

What's the point of this thread?

We are all far from LEO's.

That's a dangerous mindset to have if your not.

It could get you in trouble.

Who sold you that bag of magic beans, Jack?

We have no responsibility to help strangers, or to "be there for the general good of society." Doing so from time to time may be a good idea. It may even make you a good Christian, depending on the teachings of your particular denomination (not mine). But making a lifestyle of it will result in your spending way too much time in airports, and your weekends cleaning the yogurt tub at the Center.

Do you patrol the streets at night, helping old ladies across the street and keeping a weather eye out for the Joker and Doctor Octopus?

I'm serious. When you hear someone tell you that you have an open ended duty, incapable by definition of fulfillment, to which you did not consent, RUN.

And when you hear someone tell you that they are a cop by virtue of their very existence, RUN FASTER.

What an outstanding question. I certainly don't see a gun-specific discussion here.

When you are sworn by a governmental body and given the job of enforcing the law, then and only then are you an LEO. If you think that because you carry a firearm you have some kind of duty or right to enforce the law then do yourself a favor (and everyone in the RKBA movement) and turn in your permit or if you live in Vermont or Alaska, don't carry a firearm.

There is a lot more then carrying a firearm that goes with being an LEO. CCW permits are not a peace officer's commission anywhere in this country. No jurisdiction that I am aware of issues tights and a cape with them either. A CCW permit is simply permission to carry a firearm to protect yourself. If you think otherwise then are likely to find out the hard way that what I'm posting is true. It not only will be an expensive and embarrassing lesson, your actions could damage the movement for shall issue CCW everywhere.

    Please rethink your statement.
