I was listening to a debate today over whether to add a short reset trigger and E2 grips to a W. German Sig P226. The E2 grips also requires adding the newer style mainspring. What do you think would adding the SRT trigger and making the changes necessary to use E2 grips be improving the gun or defacing a classic?

If it is a gun you plan to shoot and those modifications make it more enjoyable, it would be improving the gun.

If you were looking to just display it, the original grips are more classic...especially the old pattern checkering...and the SRT parts are all internal

In any case, I'd keep the original grips in case you ever sell it. While a SRT isn't visible from the outside, the E2 grip will really detract from the look of a W German SIG

I wouldn't worry about it. Those are all reversible modifications.

I had a German made P226 and a P229, and currently have a P229 E2 with the SRT, and I prefer it over the SA trigger of the older guns. I also have found that while the original grips of the P226 and P229 were very well designed and quite comfortable, the new E2 grips feel even better with the textured surface and are much more ergonomically suited to my hand.

It's not the mona lisa; make the gun fit you and work for you.

Agreed 100%. The gun isn't super rare and if the upgrades/mods help you to shoot it better---go for it.

Just a quick note....in addition to the new mainspring, you also need the new main spring strut and seat (if not included in the kit) and the trigger bar spring (with the coil in the middle) for an E2 conversion.

I was on the side of arguing they should add the upgrades. I'm glad to see I was not being blasphemous.
