Great story, and great deer. It's a very satisfying feeling to take game with ammo you've made on your own. Sometimes it's nice to have a short hunt too!

I hate it when that happens, it cuts my hunting trip short...not really. Last year I shot one as we were driving into our campsite. It was great not having to get up early in the morning I stayed 3 days weather was cold enough to make things miserable but great enough where I was able to enjoy campfire breakfast daily without rushing. For me campfire breakfast is the best a pound of bacon sandwiches with a pot of coffee, than go back to sleep.

BTW great deer. Congratulations!

Nice deer! Something satisfying about putting meet in the freezer with a gun and ammo youve worked over. I rather like getting one right off the bat, means i dont have to stress about it later in the day.

I was going to euro mount this guy but changed my mind and will do a full shoulder mount. I like the curve on his main beams.

I’m also going to leave that chip on the right side alone. Adds to the character

Congrats..... Nice buck, nice rifle, nice pictures. Only took 15 minutes ? Do you have some sort of super effective buck lure ? How far away was he when he was daring you to shoot him ? I like those 180 gr. Sierra Pro Hunters but mine are all .311" in diameter and shoot real well out of a model 91/30 Mosin but I haven't been able to try that load on any critters yet. He's gonna make a dynamite mount even with that little bit of character in the rack. That just adds to the reality of it and that chipped rack will be part of your memory of that hunt, that day, and while others may comment about it.... It's your deer and your hunting memory. So preserve it.

If I did I'd be bottling it and selling it by the truck load. In this case it was just pure luck.

He's was ~140 yards and I was in that tree line you see behind me in the pic
