Yeah, it's pretty bad everywhere. About 4-5 years ago, I started buying ammo by the case. That let me weather the gaps in production by shooting out of personal stock whenever I couldn't find any in the stores. It's worked out really well.
The downside is that you obviously have to be ready to plunk down $150+ bucks at a time.

yeah id read in a few places about shortages but all they had was 1 box of oddball .45 acp and 22lr,shotgun shells,shelves were bare,they were all laughing,i just turned shakin my head.i wanted some winchester 100 packs.the armoury said next week a shipment of seller bellot range plinking 9mm will be in ,11.00 a box for brass case or ill buy more blazer aluminum at 9.00.

I can't justify the costs and learning needed to reload. Plus my land lord would be pissed.

Walmart is getting it in, it's just going out faster. I was at my local walmart on Feb 10 and I was surprised to see about 20 boxes of the Winchester 9mm value 100 pack. I wasn't going to get any as I have a decent supply at home, but a guy came up and decided to buy it all. After talking with him a bit, I asked if I could buy two boxes and he said sure. In any case, he bought the rest....I think his total came to near $400. The cashier said that they got in 3 cases, just that morning and that was all that was left.

Due to the rising price of ammunition (where the heck have you been, broken???) tens of thousands of shooters have taken up the hobby of reloading, only to empty out the stores of powder, primer and bullets.
The cost of components have skyrocketed, and the shelves are empty.
Reloading isn't the automatic solution it seems to be.

Shelves are emptying of ammo, but we are still finding powder, primers, bullets etc. Some places more than most are running out.

no offense here fellas but you know i priced the componets,dies, and bulletts,powder,brass,everything a year ago and almost choked at how much a starter kit was,no reloading for me.illl just put some extra ammo up as i can afford it.

9/50$ isn't that bad.
i can load 1000 rounds of 9 for about $80. if i went dirt cheap, $60.

I buy most of my components via mailorder. I get 10K primers and a bunch of powder in one shipment, to better amortize the HazMat fees. I am getting good quality cast 9mm 124gr/125gr bullets for just under $70/thou.

I stopped by Wally World tonight. They had a bunch of boxes of .40. If I'd been looking for FMJ I'd have been set. yep, no JHP, and one box of .22 that another costomer beat me to. Not a 9mm in sight. Damn little in the way of rifle ammo, too. lady there was reluctant to blame it on Obama, she says Obama wasn't a good choice, but the real culprit is Biden!
I guess I'm off to Space Coast Bullets to buy some reloads this week. Oh well, I haven't had any problems with their reloads, and they're cheaper than Wally World anyway.

The more these guys think its not cost effective to reload the more primers, powder, and bullets/wheel weights are available to the rest of us.

Don't know much about reloading...unfortunately (someday?). However, Wal-Mart seems to have no shortage of Blazer Brass in 9mm and WWB in .45 here in Indianapolis.
I buy a box of one or the other every time I go in thus stocking up gradually.

I had a friend try to buy 9mm from two local Wal-Marts. Both had none and told him that a local range was buying all of their inventory as soon as it came in.
I went to a third that was much further away and they had exactly one box! They also said the same range came and cleaned them out.
They are buying 4-5 cases at a time, apparently.
Fortunately the one I went to has now implemented a maximum of 4 box (not cases) per customer to prevent it from happening again.

After seeing a friend's gun choke repeatedly on Monarch brass .45 ACP, and swearing that I would never ever buy any... I did. It was the only .45 ACP range ammo within a 20 minute driving distance. I'll see how it does. These boxes do look a million times cleaner than the crap my friend had that day (covered in a greasy, gritty film). These are shiny and clean. I'm sure they'll burn sooty as all get out though, but I guess beggars can't be choosers.

I had to buy Monarch a couple weeks ago. It's OK ammo. It's like any animal-brand ammo (Wolf, Bear, Barnaul). It's dirty, but it works. Granted, I only shoot Glocks
