Maybe I'm living under a rock or something, but I hadn't heard of any +P ammo for .40.

.40 S&W ammo is pretty much at its max as orignally loaded, so no one messes with "+P", as noted above.

If you find any +P .40S&W, they're most likely lying their butts off.

There is no SAAMI +P spec for the .40 S&W. If someone is selling it as such, it's a marketing ploy and nothing more.

    I believe a +p .40 would be a 10mm. LM

Kinda the same reason you don't see any .357 Magnum +P.

Buffalo Bore claims to have .40 +p ammo. I'm skeptical. Pretty sure that GA Arms and Ammo offers it, also. Equally skeptical.

I think some people just use "+P" as a way to say "extra power," even though that is technically improper and misleading.
So that might be why BB calls it +P. But as others have said, there is no standard for +P in .40S&W so I avoid the stuff.

BB has +P in .32 and in .380 auto..both of which has no SAAMI Spec +P rating.
Just a marketing ploy to tell the buyer "This round is loaded hot."

Why would you need a plus P in a 40, it has plenty of power as is. All you will do is beat your gun up with little gain. Like stated above if you want a +P 40 buy a 10mm.

There is no +P SAAMI standard for the .40 S&W. That would technically make anything loaded above standard .40 pressures, +P+...Beyond any standardized safe pressure. You have to remember that the .40 is stuffing a lower end 10mm loading into a shorter case.

It would indeed be the same as advertising a +P loading for the .357 Magnum or .44 Magnum

    Correct!

If one wants maximum energy from a .40, look toward the 155/165 grain full power loads; some can exceed 500 ft/lbs in a normal pistol.

I enjoy the 180 grain subsonic JHP at about 980fps, but if money was no object or if I was hyper-concerned about performance, I would get either a 155 Gold Dot LE loads, or 165 Ranger Talon LE loads. But I'm not, and 180 grain HST or 180 grain Ranger Bonded is good enough for me and was about $10 cheaper per box of 50.
