What are some must have guns?

M1 Garand, a good 22LR rifle, an AR-15, and a reliable handgun are all must haves for me. I still don't have a Garand though.

Hi Power
1911
S&W .357
Ruger .22 pistol
HK USP
12 guage
.22 rifle
Long range scoped rifle
AR-15
AK-47
M1 Garand

Pretty much everything I hope to own by the time I die. Maybe a few more, but to me, these are the essentials.

Must have guns hmmm...... I'm going to be as practical as I can when considering "must have" guns.

I think first and foremost in everyone's "must have" category would be some kind of .22lr, rifle, pistol whatever your flavor, so much can be done with this little cartridge most could probably get by the rest of their lives with nothing more.

Secondly, I'd say some sort of shotgun, again in whichever form you desire, quite a bit can be done with a good shotty from squirrels and rabbits, to ducks, geese, deer and just about everything that walks or crawls. It's an awesome HD weapon.

Thirdly, and I'm not so sure it's a "must have" but I know if I didn't have one I'd at least find a way to turn this want into a "need", again whatever handgun suits your needs, when situations won't allow you to function with a long arm slung across your back.

And lastly, trying to be as practical as possible, some sort of high-powered rifle. Unless you hunt large game, shoot far distances for one reason or another, or there is a real chance of fighting other human beings, I really don't see a hi-powered rifle as a "must have" per se.

However, as we are all Americans and knowing our history and being prepared for most possibilities, some people will find they "must have" one for those "possibilities".

There are people that live in areas where a hi-powered rifle would be necessary for warding off dangerous or pestilent animals, maybe even rabid ones. The hi-powered rifle is another tool, you may not need it most of the time, but when you do need it, it is definitely a "must have".

When you're expecting trouble:
H&K91
Colt 1911
When you're hungry:
Steyr Scout .308
Marlin Model 39
For things that go bump in the night:
Remington 870 Marine Magnum
Carry weapons, Summer/Winter:
Ruger LCP/H&K P7

My must have list is very short compared to some I have read on here.

S&W 351 .22wmr
Ruger 77 MKII in .22wmr

Colt Diamondback .38
Colt Python .357
Marlin 1894 .38/.357

I prefer a Ruger red label 20g SxS if I have to have a shotgun.
If I where to hunt again I would want a Marlin 30-30.

I've enjoyed everyone's posts here. "Must have" implies to ME owning a single gun.

Well, I used to be confident that every head of the household should have a 12 ga. shotgun. Mossberg 590 (not A1) 8+1 with a Polychoke.

But then the world started to change. Today? An AR carbine middy.

Anything else is a luxury.

My opinion is, you should start with a defensive firearm that you can keep with you as often as possible.

In other words, carry gun comes first. It can double as a home defense weapon, a glove box gun for the vehicle, etc. For all its limitations vs long guns, it's the one you're going to have most often, so it should be the first investment.

After that, a .22lr handgun to lower the cost of practicing would be the next logical step.

Then you can start worrying about defensive long guns, backup handguns, etc.

I plan to add a pre-64 Winchester model 70 to my collection, some day.Any caliber will do,but probably something that was popular in that time period. My Remington model 700's probably shoot better, but they are just classy rifles. Lightman

Pistols:

.22 LR, .38 Spl., .357 Mag, and a large bore .44 or .45 caliber

Rifle:

.22 action doesn't matter, a lever action caliber doesn't matter, a bolt action caliber doesn't matter

Shotgun:

12 or 20 gauge pump
