I am planning on making a GP purchase and was thinking I might order some extra and sell it locally just to cover the hazmat fee. I don't personally know anyone local who reloads to split cost with so it makes me wonder what powders would be easiest to sell in a 4lb container format?

w231, bullseye, 2400.

What is a GP purchase? Good purchase?

W-231, AA # 5, Unique, & Bullseye are very popular choices. It would be interesting to see a list of the top sellors.

Given the range of popular pistol cartridges and the wide range of applications for using them, and GP aside, what ever that is, the question has no validity as it's stated.

No validity? If there were a million different powders available, there would always be a top 3 most popular. Seems like a simple question to me.... I don't know the answer, but still a simple question.

It is just hard to give an answer without knowing the sales figures from all the powder companies.

I like Bullseye, Unique, and 2400, and could live happily if nothing else were made.

The next typer to come along will like 700x, 231, and H-110.

Then along comes the Titegroup, Power Pistol, and H4227 crowd.

I do not believe you can get a consensus on the top three powders.
(if you ask more then one person.)

I'm "The next typer"...

There is no "most popular" handgun powder. individuals have their favorite, but it won't match mine. Nor will it match yours. Just too many calibers, styles of handguns not to mention one handgun and it's brother may not like the same powder.

With that said...Considering my semi-autos and revolvers...My favorite powders are W-231 for my autos and revolvers. AA #7 for one of my autos. WSF for another of my autos. 2400 for one of my magnum revolvers and W-296 for one of the other magnum revolvers.

Then we get into Rifles.......GET THE POINT??:D

W-231 is reputed to being Winchesters best selling powder. I figure it up near the top.

I have these lying around:
Red Dot
Bullseye
Herter's 164 = Nobel 64
SR7625
Unique
AA#5
Power Pistol
HS-6 = W540= True Blue [HS7 = W571]
Blue Dot
2400
3N37
800-X
AA#7
N105
Long Shot
STEEL
Enforcer = AA#9 =H108 = WC820
AA#9
N110
H110 = W296
W296
LIL'GUN

I use Power Pistol for hot loads in:
25acp, 32acp, 30 Mauser, 7.62x25mm Tokarev, .380, 9x19mm, 9x23mm, and 45acp.

I use Unique in wimpy loads for for weak old guns in 32 S&W, 38 S&W, and 45 Colt.

I use Blue Dot for reduced loads for rodents in 19 Badger and .223 Rem.

I use 800X for atomic loads in 32 S&W Long, 380, 40 S&W, and 10mm.

I use H110/W296 or LIL'GUN for hot loads in 32 S&W Long, 38 Special, 357 mag, 45acp auto rim, and 45 Colt.

In 9x19 I have tried every bullet and every powder I have in work ups until brass failure to see what happens and record it.
In 44 mag, I have only shot 24 gr H110 240 gr JHP for 12 years without variation.
Sometimes you find what you like faster:)

Bullseye, Unique and Blue Dot

I think I've always had Unique and Bullseye... for nearly 40 years.... those two for sure, and almost always some Blue Dot. I've used other powders, liked most of them, but those three have a permanent home on my loading bench.

Seems to me you need a licence to sell powder.
"...hoping for some sales figures..." I doubt many retailers would release that kind of info to somebody on the Internet.
Bullseye and Unique for sure.

Titegroup

Bullseye

231 (HP38)

Clays
(seems to be the cat's meow for 1911 45acp high volume target shooters now days........myself included)

Power Pistol

For me it's 231, Clays & Power Pistol.
I also use TightGroup, Bullseye & Unique.

If I had to guess the top three selling pistol powders, I'd say Unique, Bullseye, and W231.

Ironically, the only one on my reloading shelf is Unique, and it's a pretty old can ($11.99 ??) which won't be replaced when empty.
