What are the differences in the Sig models?

I'm not familiar at all with the Sig line. Everybody seems pretty excited about the 229, but then I check out Sigforum and everybody has their own favorite.

Can someone break down the differences in the models in plain english for me? There's the 229, 239, 226, etc. What are the advantages of each? Disadvantages?

Confusing having all that variety, but it will really come down to your needs & application. If it's a concealed carry gun, perhaps one of the compacts will work, if it's a duty, range, IDPA gun perhaps one of the full size guns. Then again, you've got the steel framed, aluminum framed & polymer framed guns to choose from too.
