What are you feeding your 22lr rifles?

I have a bunch of Remington bulk .22 LR that I can't find right now, but I did find a 325 round box of the Federal 36 grain CPHP ammo in the garage that still had the original price tag of $19.00. That's what I'm loading in my new Henry Survival Rifle.

Some left over federal soft lead bullets for plinking and Remington hollow points for hunting. As soon as I can get my hands on some Stingers or MiniMags I will buy a bunch.

They're happy with anything except Remington ammo. Especially my Remington 552. It runs great on Federal Automatch, but absolutely HATES Rem Golden Bullets, Yellow Jackets, anything Remington. Weird, but true.

Glenn Berryhill...I know the Mather area well as I'm originally from Sacramento. My BIL used to fly B-52's out of Mather back in the 60's. I still frequent Sacramento Raceway Park out that way. Of course haven't made it out there this year due to Covid.

Truthfully,,,
Whatever I can find.

Just yesterday I picked up a 1,000 round pack of Winchester at Wal Mart,,,
It was only $44.95 before tax so I said "what the heck" and got it

I do have a fairly large stash (53,000 rounds) of decent .22 ammo though,,,
I started buying up after the Obama Drought.

In that stash (which is for my imminent retirement) I have centered on four brands:
  • CCI 40 grain RN for my very picky semi-auto pistols
  • Remington Mil-Surp LRN for my semi-auto rifles
  • Federal Auto Match for my single-shot rifles
  • Federal 550 round bulk packs for plinking
But like I said before,,,
To just have something to idly use up,,,
I'll shoot just about anything that will fit the chamber.

With the present availability of 22lr, I've been considering pushing 22 airgun pellets with a RamSet cartridge. :uhoh:

At the moment I'm working my way through three bricks of 05 vintage Remington Thunderbolts in my Crickett. That's the good thing about single shots, no worries about feeding and ejection. Decent groups too, with the occasional dud now and again. Also scored some CCI Minimag, but that's reserved for my P22 since it's about the only kind that performs consistently in it.

Anything but recent Winchester or Browning (made by Winchester). Remington's famous golden bullet is much better feeding in all my semi's. The problem with the Winchester is the bullets are too big in diameter and will not chamber most of the time in any of my semi's. They work in the bolt guns - have not tried them in the revolvers.

I used to have tons of bulk ammo like Winchester and Remington and most of my firearms never liked Winchester. I got rid of it during the Obama years shooting it up as I never bought ammo during those times unless I found it at regular prices. Now, I'm good to go for another 20 years but this time it is more selective ammo that I like. CCI, Aguila, and Wolf Target match ammo make the bulk of my stash now and for my two best shooting rifles I feed them gourmet ammo like eley or lapua.

I'm glad to hear the race track is still there. Always thought the B-52s were awesome. I miss the mountains and streams most of all. I fished with a friend near Kyburz (sp). We'd take his Jeep way up the logging roads and likely not see a single person. Loved it.

Had a friend in high school who got a Nylon 66 for Christmas. He was a wild kid and abused the heck out of that gun. it never failed him in spite of the relentless abuse. Doubt he ever cleaned it. So, in my experience, about anything will work in the 66. Like other posters, I tend to buy better ammo for guns that will deliver better accuracy. I have moved to SK Standard Plus, RWS Rifle Target, and a couple others for those rifles

Starvation rations! I'm actually pretty well stocked in .22, but I don't shoot it much. I've picked up a .357 Henry which fills my plinking niche with low velocity cast .38s. I've also got a pistol bullet load worked up for my .30-06 bolt gun using a 110 gr cast and a small pinch of Red Dot. Cheap and replaceable shooting. Saving my stash of .22s for backyard pest control and some occasional plinking.

I've got 3 bricks of Armscorp brass plated hollow point I inherited from my FIL. Not great ammo, but not bad either. Won't win any target matches with it, but it kills gophers and such. I have a brick of Win T22 that is much more closely guarded. It comes out for special occasions. At the reduced rate I shoot .22 even in normal times, I should be set for a few years.

Found some RWS match ammo.
No SK match anywhere.
See how it does in the CZ455.
