First time in a long time I will be hunting in shoot gun zone in Michigan. I will be using 12ga with slug barrel. I usually hunt in the U.P., and use 30-06 but staying home and hunting with neighbors on their farm as well as a couple of other farms of friends. Good luck everyone.

Ten days and a wake-up till my deer hunting drought finally ends!!

Hopefully, I will at least see a deer. I am going to be carrying a Savage 11 in .243, with a S&W 13 .357 on my belt. Last time I hunted deer was in 2005, and before that, deployments kept me away.

My main big game hunting rifle is my Remington model 7600 Carbine 30-06 Spr. with a Leupold VX-II 2-7x33mm Scope. I use it about 75% of the time, when my shots will be from 2 to 200 yards.

I also use my Marlin 336C 35 Rem. with XS Ghost Ring Sights. I use it when hunting in thick brush, deep think woods, deer drives and sometimes still hunting when my shots will be under 75 (100) yards max.

I use my Remington 700 Classic 280 Rem. with a older Redfield Tracker 3-9x40mm Scope. I use it for watching fields, clear cuts and power lines or when my shot will most likely will be over 200 yards.

NYH1! ;)

I'll be using a Weatherby 257 Mag loaded with Barnes 100 gr TTSX Bullets
Only drops 6" at 400 yards, with 3570 fps

I just primered up some 30-06 brass and will finish up tomorrow with 57.5 gr of 4350 and 150gr Nosler BT's.

I use a Rem 760 and by downloading to that amount of powder, I can group between 1 to 1 1/4". The deer don't seem to care about the lower powder charge.

Sidearm is a Ruger Redhawk which I used a couple years ago on my weak side to shoot a doe at about 40yds.

Closer to home, I use a Ithaca deerslayer. 20" bbl slug gun. 3X9 with Rem copper solid sabots. The longest shot I ever made on a deer was with this SG (95 paces with a BRI sabot)

I'm seeing a surprising number of non-traditional rifles here. Lots of AR15's and such.. Where I live you would get laughed at for hunting with anything but a simple bolt action. Not that we don't have an appreciation for an AR15, but we won't hunt with one.
As for me.. M700 in .270 and Parker Tornado for the whitetail, and a Henry .22 for when the squirrel population needs thinning.

in december it will be my mossberg maverick 88 12ga and my ruger super blackhawk .44 magnum.

in january it will be my marlin 336 in 30-30, with my .44 riding my hip yet again! cant wait for the season to open!

Interesting. Where I live, and among the people I know, many hunt with an AR. I don't think they care much if Zumbos laugh at them for it.

I considered using my 5.56mm AR carbine this year, but decided against it because of the long ranges that often present themselves here. I have no doubt that it would work, but I won't shoot one of those tiny pills at a deer further than 200 yards. 150 and in is where I would want to use it, and shots that close happen, but you can't count on it. Plan for the worst, hope for the best. Otherwise, I probably would have chosen it.

I have used an SKS in the past. A friend of mine is using a 6.8mm AR, as is his wife.

Well, I have to revise my response. I ended up taking my Winchester M70 Stealth (completely factory-stock), chambered in .308 Win, topped with the Nightforce 3.5-15X56 scope, atop of a Farrell 10 MOA base. It worked flawlessly to harvest a huge-bodied 3-point buck at about 200 yards at about 10:30 am on opening day. I also decided to try some of Winchester "Super-Max" 150 grain protected HP, bonded ammo. Dear sweet by-and-by, at 2,820 FPS, did that ammo hit hard!!! Now I have to fill my doe tag. :D

Marlin 336W in 30-30 it's killed 10 or so deer over the years and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Blaser R8 in .30-06. So far it has been awesome. I recently picked up a 9.3x62 Mauser barrel for it that I am itching to try.

I shot this buck opening day with my Krieghoff Semper 8x57jrs,

Then i switched to my 700 Remington chambered in .240 Wby., and took two does a couple days after that. Here's one of them,

Tricky brush you hunt there. I recall missing out on 3 does my last trip because they were moving in and out of it too quickly to find in the scope. I'm switching to open sights. Congrats! Where exactly is "upper midwest"?
